I came across the text of 'Beasts and men, being Carl Hagenbeck's experiences for half a century among wild animals'. Beasts and men, being Carl Hagenbeck's experiences for half a century among wild animals; : Hagenbeck, Carl, 1844-1913 : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive The inventor of modern zoo writes about his adventures as a zoo director, circus trainer, wild animal trader and pure lover of wild animals. There is account of the expedition for Przewalski's horses to Mongolia, from which come virtually all Przewalski's Horses alive today, his tame Barbary lion and lots of more. Interesting is first-hand account of 'human zoos' or actually folklore shows, about which lots of misinformation circulates today, also on this forum.
In the past zoos are said to have also exhibited people alongside animals, although real information on this is very hard to find. See Ota Benga - Wikipedia
