The new issue of Z magazine mentions the breeding of 4 Javan green magpies, a U.K.first breeding, also the arrival of binturong has been confirmed, but not to subspecies level.

however I still feel that the magazine is far too heavily weighted in favour of conservation, and against things hapening in the zoo.

Other new arrivals are Indian Dwarf Mudskippers.

Also (p35) confirmation of work on the old condor aviary coming up in the autumn development push.

Nerdy point, but it's the first time I've noticed them quoting the new, upgraded acreage (up from 110 to 125). It's been 110 ever since I've been going (though I'm sure the Jaguars must have added an unacknowledged acre).

Zootierliste lists four zoos each for P. barbarus and P. novemradiatus (without Chester) - almost bound to be incomplete for small fishes but Chester would seem to put the latter ahead!

Does anyone know what passerine species is mixed with the Wrinkled Hornbills in the elephant house? They were being very elusive yesterday, but seemed vaguely laughingthrush-y in size and structure.

I wonder if the push for more birds in Islands will (fingers crossed) involve or lead to the return of BOPs. Also, I can't wait to find out what species will be in the walkthrough aviary!

Also, anyone who's visited recently, what's going on with the chimps? Are Boris, Patti and Chrissie still together with Kiki and Vila, or have they switched them around? And are the German ladies still onshow?

I appreciate that I am being very pedantic here, but the creeping use of this tautology really irritates me: an aviary is a cage for birds, so why "bird aviary"? Unnecessary, Chester Zoo PR Department, unnecessary!

I wonder what new species (if any) will be in the NEW aviary or will they just move species already in the collection into the aviary or walkthrough we will have to wait and see.

You'll need to contact the marketing bods at the zoo - or perhaps check the grounds for "interesting" mushrooms.

I would like to be proved wrong but I'm thinking - don't hold your breath.

Read in a more sober light,, I now realise you were refering to marketing madness rather than rambling incoherently (it's the marketing department rambling incoherently). Apologies for the misunderstanding.
