Oh no :-( That's absolutely awful news. I hope we hear something about how this happened. I really wish I had been quicker to go and see them, was putting it off for various reasons. Obviously that's not the big issue here though but I'm gutted on many levels!
So you did not need the "I believe" in your post, quote the app next time too. Just saves having to work out if the news is real or not.
A friend told me so I questioned it he told me it was on the app I was relaying it as I heard about it.
This is really sad news, it must have been either disease or stress related I'd imagine as all four of them dying sounds really bizarre. Such a shame as they were a new addition to the collection, I hope more can be aquired in the future if possible.
The sad news is on the zoo website now, its not immediately obvious but if you go to the news section it is the latest story.
On a significantly brighter note, the Chester Zoo FB page has confirmed that the Sun Bear cub has reached the important 30-day milestone and as such now counts as the first successful UK breeding of the species.
That’s brilliant news. Also on a much lighter note the baby chimp has been given a name at last: Stevie, I wonder how many people understand why it has been named that way.
What is the connection between Stevie Nicks( a singer with the Fleetwood Mac group) and a female chimpanzee born at Chester in 2018 ?
Most of the current chimps that have been born at Chester in the last 40 years or so have musically based names. I believe that’s the theme.
That’s what the babies name is based on. Most of Chester’s chimps have names based on musicians. EG Dylan - Bob Dylan. The zoo have confirmed this is the basis for the name via social media.
Yes, she is. Equally Zee Zee, the mother of this baby, is presumably named after ZZ Top, who are all male.
The zoo have announced via social media the birth of a Victoria Crested Pigeon, the first for a few years, that I’m aware of. Does anyone know which exhibit this is in: monsoon forest or tropical realm?
