This is a weird and hyperspecific request, but can anyone help me finding the Chinese names of animals So: weird story. I make guides for certain areas in zoos, like reptile houses and aviaries. Me and some friends are going to a zoo soon and as a joke one of my friends said he wanted his in Chinese, so I decided to do that. I was able to find most animals by switching between the English and Chinese Wikipedia. But there were a few I couldn't find. Do all your friend’s jokes generate this amount of work? If so, he has a very time consuming sense of humour.
I don’t get the impression the friend thought Chinese was a joke, more he thought of one of the most challenging languages to translate something into. The difficulty of the task was the ‘joke’. Presumably the friend is fluent in Chinese, otherwise @Mr Gharial could make up any old Chinese characters and tell him it’s zoo animals.
"Am I speaking Chinese or something?" is a bit of a saying in Dutch, as Chinese is a language everybody knows about, but (almost) nobody speaks. After I announced I made a Dutch version of the Guides for the older friends, one of them jokingly said she wanted hers in Chinese (because I was implying their English wasn't good enough). Chinese isn't considered a joke, it's just considered a good example for a language not many people speak. Now the joke is on her, as I'm now actually making one She doesn't speak Chinese, I'm just a bit of a perfectionist For these two I used a mixture of G-translate and Multilanguage wikipedia. In all honestly, I have no idea how correct it actually is
mostly accurate, just a few things: 1)"Free roamers" is a hard thing to translate to but i think "放养" suit it better 2) Grey winged trumputer would be "灰翅喇叭鳥"

Maybe, but at the same time we have no indication that WalkingAgnatha doesn't know simplified Chinese better than aardvark250 does.
1) i cant write and not bothered to type in simplified chinese. 2) WalkingAgnatha is completely correct on the simplified chinese translation I dont see any problem with his post, i just feel like instead of sounding like correcting me, he can just add something like "for your context here's the simplified version"
"Great aviary" should be translated as "大鸟舍" "Leopard gecko" should be translated as "豹纹守宫" (popular name) or "斑睑虎" (professional name)
