KarenZoo. It wasn't Giraffe sized it wasn't big enough it was only a 7.5 tonne type. Strange I wonder where Anouska was? And if anyone has seen both tigers today?
could be anything coming or going with Colchester lol they do keep changing! The tigers sometimes hide in the bamboo in the large enclosure and you don't see them till they get up??
I did visit 3 times throughout the day and never spotted 2 tigers and I had a good look. It was more the remaining tiger behaviour that made me think something was up. Lots of calling and pacing.
i went today and only saw igor (i can tell the difference between both tigers) and he was pacing and calling. i have a few i deas what animals might be moving on: anoushka the tiger keli and mutu the komodo dragons sasha the bengal tiger so they can get in a different pair of bengal tigers darco the aardvark as he is coming up to suitable breeding age aris the cheetah
It has already been mentioned that the above animals (beside Sasha and the aardvark) would be moving on. Also, why would they move the white tiger on, to bring in another Bengal tiger pair??? It's a stupid idea, that wouldn't happen, and would put the zoo in disregard in conservation terms.
could be ayo the pygmy hippo as she is aproaching the age where zoos sent hippos off to a new home is flossie the rhino still there, if she has died then colchester zoo would want to replace her asap
I am sorry but could you please stop with the silly comments. Ayo is definatley not ready to be moved on and Flossie isnt dead. Regarding Sasha; He will stay at Colchester Zoo to live out his days.
5th May Komodor (male komodo dragon) flew from Prague to Colchester. Measured: 206 cm, 21kg. Apparently his hatchmate sisters will go to Bracelona (Spain) and Thoiry (France). Enjoy him!
No chance and even less chance. Sasha will be there to the end and they'd struggle to find pure Bengals. When Sasha does die it will leave a sizeable, well planted enclosure, for whatever replaces him though.
No Sayan is the current Breeding Male. He hasnt yet been paired with Milena. Dende the Non-breeding male hasnt got a home yet.
I think we could speculate all day what animal has left, BUT maybe it was one arriving I for one will be very sad when Annouska leaves, and told her keeper that (although probably came across as sulking lol) but hopefully she will go somewhere we can visit as we have been following her progress since she was a cub. Although saying that I have realised that since becoming card holding members we have seen 7 Amur tigers at colchester Bruno & Padmini who were on loan, the late (beautiful) Anastasia, then Annouska and her brothers Czar & Uri, at last but not least Igor! All of which we didn't want to go I also don't think any comments are silly as everything is up for discussion when you use a forum, not everyone knows as much as everyone else and sometimes we do know information but don't want to share it openly! I for one are certainly no expert, just a regular zoo goer who loves to learn as much as possible as has no idea of the actually running of a zoo or breeding programmes just a soppy git who thinks they should all stay forever (especially Rajang)
The transport lorry may of been on it's way too or from another zoo and just stopped at Colchester for a break.
The new male Red Panda is called An An and he arrived on 6th May. He is 11 months old and the son of the ex Colchester male Rusco who went to Frankfurt several years ago before being moved to Warsaw and becoming a father to An An! The giraffe move and arrival will go ahead on 2nd June
Some News on the Binturong and Komodo Dragons: 'Sunti' a new female binturong from chessington will be staying a Colchester Zoo temporarily. The new male Komodo Dragon will eventually be mixed with 'one' of the females.
0:1 Bintarong arrived recently. Her name is Sunti and she was handreared at Chessington in 2008. Colchester now keeps 2:2
