Scimitar oryx come to mind for me first. Followed by bongo, eland and yellow-backed duiker, but I don't have any numbers on me.
In the UK now it could be Lechwe, certainly not the lovely Blackbuck which would at one time have been a contender. Perusal of Zootierliste would probably give an answer.
Bongo and Yellow-Backed Duiker are both kept at very few collections in the US. This is for the US only.
What? Just a quick Google Search told me that more than 300 bongos are kept in U.S collections, how are they rare? I don't know the numbers for yellow-backed duiker but I recon they are not that rare.
In that case you should have said at the beginning that you were not interested in our insignificant Old World collections. Sorry I spoke.
I’m sorry that I may have hurt your feelings. I never meant to exclude European zoos. I’m kind of curious about how collections are organized compared to the U.S.
Sorry for any inaccuracies, I was going off of a fairly unreliable gut feeling. We need an American Zootierliste! I might look at old ISIS via Wayback later. Waterbuck and addax are two I forgot to mention. I think blackbuck are in a fair few but are WAY more common in Europe.
They are the most common duiker species in the US and are not rare. I'd have to go back and refer to my lists, but I believe that addax, both species of kudu, and Grant's gazelle are quite common as well.
