The sustainable use of any animal ensures the survival of the species, Crocodiles in New Guinea, African Hoofstock, are all sustainable use sucess stories
Yes, it does. Interestingly, removing frogs from the wild for the pet trade, despite having a negative impact on the wild populations can actually help zoos and conservationists work on conservation techniques. Some species of frog are notoriously hard to breed in captivity due to the various environmental cues, and sometimes it is hobbyists who can help provide some of the answers. Not that I agree with talking animals from the wild to keep them in a glass tank without natural stimuli for some enthusiast to stare at. Quite the opposite.
A very valid point. Just to balance the argument: It is believed that the global trade in the African Clawed Frog (taken from the wild in large numbers), resulted in the spread of Chytrid fungus which has been the cause of so many frog species ending up on the endangered species lists. Hix
