Research done by Dr. Ruth Bennett at Cornell University (now a research at the Smithsonian's Migratory Bird Center) revealed that males and females of many migratory songbird species occupy different wintering habitats - and that male habitats are being protected at a significantly higher rate than female habitats. Additionally, out of 66 conservation plans they reviewed for threatened migratory songbirds, only 3 even mentioned sexual segregation.
