In case anyone hasn't seen this, about a croc in a Taiwan zoo that ripped off a vet's arm... Croc Attack Sheds Light on "Disastrous" Conditions at Taiwan Zoo there's a nice photo of the croc with said arm still in its mouth. The article is about conditions at the zoo
I applaud the fact that concerned people take issue at deplorable conditions at non-standard zoos (for lack of a better word). However, It is almost exclusively people that do not like zoos and want them closed altogether. In no time these Zoo Check folk jump on the bandwagon and hijack the conditions to have the zoo under review closed. Apart from the fact that it is a disqualification for ordering upgrading of these zoos and making them places of both recreation as well as education and conservation, it pains me that the media always follow the Zoo Check people around. Whatever happened to independent reporting ..... and taking the questions to the Kaohsiung municipality then? Fortunately, something seems to be happening .... (though (Indo)-Chinese-Japanese zoos tend to have a major financial element in them that governs the wildlife and vet management). I do not follow the Zoo Check bit where they conclude that the current investigation on the part of the municipality (which has brought in independent wildlife conservationists from Taiwan to look at zoo conditions, enclosures and order a complete overhaul).
Add that zoo in Taiwan to the mammoth list of atrocious Asian zoos. The living conditions of animals in many zoos across China, Japan and other Asian countries can only improve over time, as they simply cannot get any worse. That photo of the crocodile chomping on a hand made it into the year-end issue of National Geographic!
Is it in the famous Taipei zoo or in another zoo on the island?? By the way? How many parks are there on Taiwan island?? Anybody has visited all of them? And what about aquariums? In advance, thanks!
