Earlier this summer I visited South America with a few friends, traversing Brazil, Bolivia and Peru (along with brief stopovers in Argentina and Paraguay). Along the way, I hoped to visit several zoos. Unfortunately, due to handicaps near the beginning and end of the trip (a friend was quite ill soon after arrival, and I broke my leg in a biking accident in Bolivia about two-thirds of the way through the trip) only a few were visited. Individual reports will follow, along with photos from each zoo. Just to offer an outline, these are the six zoological institutions I did manage to visit: RioZoo – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Bosque das ciencias – Manaus, Brazil CIGS Zoo – Manaus, Brazil Santa Cruz Zoo – Santa Cruz, Bolivia Parque de las Leyendas (Legends’ Park) – Lima, Peru Huachipa Zoo – Lima, Peru I’m in the process of writing up reports and organising my photos. I’ll update this thread with any developments.
First report is finally up, Lima's Legends' Park: http://www.zoochat.com/235/visit-july-2010-a-179728/
It's been almost a year since my trip, so I'll be uploading some of my photos into the '- Other' galleries over the next few days.
