Went today again to De Oliemeulen and althrough I visited it already yesterday again some changes ! - new fish-species found in the single aquarium, species however unknown to me : - in a small "baby"terrarium a baby Yellow-headed tortoise :
New species for the Oliemeulen : 8 Eastern casquehead iguanas found a new home in the Oliemeulen. They are the only specimens in the Netherlands on public view .
Some notes from todays visit : - in the only aquarium at the Oliemeulen a new fish-species "discovered" : a small group of Javan ricefish - Oryzias javanicus ( see Javan ricefishes - Oryzias javanicus - ZooChat ) - new are also 3 Black and white ruffed lemurs. They came from Blanckendaells Park are are in a quarantaine-cage behind the indoor-enclosure of the Ring-tailed lemurs ( see "Quarantaine-cage" Black and white ruffed lemurs - ZooChat ) - Also new are 2 Abdim storks which are housed together with Black and White-headed vultures in a large aviary next to the Squirrel monkeys ( see Abdim stork - ZooChat ) - The 8 Casquehead iguanas are on display in an enclosure together with some dart frogs ( see Eastern casquehead iguana - ZooChat )
I'm not entirely sure what this is, but it might be an adult male Apistogramma macmasteri, one of the red colour forms.
Sad news from De Oliemeulen to start the year with : the Egyptian cobra has died. The animal was 35 years old and 30 of these years it lived at De Oliemeulen.
A new Egyptian cobra has been obtained and is now living in the same enclosure in which the old one had been kept.
A while ago a rumour was spread about Oliemeulen moving to a new location, does anyone have information about where they are with that right now?
The plan still stands and in the next 2 or 3 years they will be moving to another location near Tilburg.
Ah okay, I think I saw the adress of the location a while back (somewhere in an old farm) but from there it was kinda radiosilence. Thanks anyways!
Green waterdragon hatched at the Oliemeulen. More eggs are still in the incubator so prob. the number will raise the coming days .
