Hello Everyone, I've been doing some historical research into my local zoo, the Capron Park Zoo. I've had very little luck finding stuff online, with only one video and a handful of images. Does anyone on here have any knowledge of the zoo and its collection, particularly before the year 2000? Thank You, Neil
Here is a picture I found of the current Nocturnal building (former monkey house and former Zoo Building) Attleboro Massachusetts~Harford A Capron Zoo Building 1950 | eBay
I’m not sure if this will help, but I’ve found a short article with some information of animals the zoo used to have in the past.Capron Park turns 100
Found a document detailing the park, which includes the zoo. https://www.cityofattleboro.us/DocumentCenter/View/334/History-of-Capron-Park-PDF
Also let's just make a list of animals at the old zoo Polar bear Black bear (put down shortly after arrival) Lion Tiger Leopard Puma Deer Buffalo Rabbits Emu Monkeys (non-specifics) Tropical House Otter Two-toed sloth Golden marmoset Emerald tree boa Iguana Tree toad Fish (non-specifics) Birds (65-70 non-specifics)
Other former species: Snow leopard Ocelot Fishing Cat Slow loris Aoudad Crested Porcupine Binturong I have also have had difficulty looking up historical info/pics of Capron
The only other former species I am aware of are a hyena and a jaguar that lived in/outside the Capron Building (before it was a Monkey House), plus a few recent departures, such as the Japanese macaque and southern screamers.
There were also two palm civets that arrived dead from San Diego. I don't know if this species was ever exhibited. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1990-06-15-me-84-story.html?_amp=true
