Considering his name is Jochem, a very Dutch name, I would assume so!

The Nile lechwe male has left the zoo. I'm unsure where though. As have the scarlet ibis. Once again, I don't know where to.

And the African Aviary pool in running again. Stood for half an hour watching the hammerkop enchanted with the water.

We always take pride in choosing names that we are sure of nobody else can pronounce correctly ;)

BTW: we are still unsure whether the "ASSUME" is a "DEAD CERT" vis a vis Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo.

    Visayan/Phillipine Deer in UK current status resume;

    Chester. 1.1+1(female?)
Colchester 1.3 (appear to be non-breeders?)
    Edinburgh. 1.1+1 (is that correct?)
    Newquay. Number?
West Midlands. I saw 1.0 here the other week, are there any more than that now?

Anyone who can fill in the gaps or add any other holders I've omitted, please do.

Edinburgh have 3:2 (breeding pair, last year's female offspring, and this year's male plus another adult male in a separate enclosure he shares with the grey kangaroo).

Newquay usually have a breeding pair plus current offspring. Someone better acquainted with the place can probably give the current situation.

I'm off to Edinburgh next week for the first time in many years.

Any advice on what I mustn't miss?

    Koalas should be worth missing.

In addition to the zoo, if time permits whilst in Edinburgh, I’d recommend the zoology galleries of the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street.

Exhibits include the quagga that died in London Zoo in 1872, one of the London Zoo thylacines, a Javan rhinoceros….

I visited this Zoo back in May, and my three favorite sections were Living Links, Tiger Tracks, and Budongo Trail - they're among the best I've seen for their species, and shouldn't be missed. Some other highlights included the giant pandas, koalas, sun bears, and most of the African animal exhibits.

    Enjoy your visit!

The National Museum of Scotland is generally excellent imo - I second this suggestion.

I'm thinking of purchasing RZSS membership, is anyone here a member? Do you need to add photographic ID to the membership card for it to be valid?
