Look? I'm guessing lion is what you meant. Did you visit the zoo today or is it somewhere on the internet? I am excited to see how the new exhibits will look, and am glad they are taking advantage of the constuction.
Definitely looking forward to the new Mesa bridge. Getting from lost forest to elephant odyssey has always been a hassle. Currently, visitors need to take a hill by the birds of prey, take kangaroo bus or go all the way around through the entrance.
How are they being updated? More space? New structures? Rotation yards? New viewing? Also when will the new bridge open?
I have learned from other zoochatters, that the Bridge is most likely opening along with Africa Rocks in Summer 2017.
Thanks for the bridge info, but how are the cat exhibits being changed. Also I heard the South American exhibits are being renovated as well. Is that true?
That I do not know, but my guess would be they are expanding them, or making them more realistic. Right now, they aren't very good, the lion yard is very small and the jaguar yard is on the smaller side, with a concrete shelter in between. I visited San Diego in March of 2010, so EO had been open for about 10 months at the time, and it hasn't changed at all, I expected the plants to grow in lion exhibit, but they never did. It is unfortunate that Elephant Odyssey didn't live up to the hype, and the zoo has already lost 2 elephants this year. I hope these new/renovated exhibits are better than the current/former ones.
I do not think that's the case. How would they really expand it. They cant extend it back because the tram runs that way. They will probably just add more viewing or redo the fencing.
I can understand if it was just a minor renovation but according to The_UltimateBea they are being torn down, so it isn't just a minor renovation like adding more viewing or a fencing change, it is entirely possible that lions are moving elsewhere (Africa Rocks?, Yes I have seen the plans, I honestly think they should only have 2 baboon exhibits and the final be a savannah with giraffe/zebra/antelope with a lion/cheetah/hyena exhibit nearby), I doubt it but it is possible.
Sorry guys, I mispoke. The netting is off and there appears to be minor machinery inside. I doubt they are moving the exhibit but it is a big enough renovation to require a pedestrian detour. Could be a routine renovation, could be more.
Welp, maybe my ideas in Africa Rocks are dead (they were never really alive), I hope they are actually doing something to these exhibits, because they aren't the best.
I am just going off what UltimateBea said, I live in San Antonio, so I am just going off the info, the zoo has said nothing about it on social media, so I have no clue.
Same here, I am hoping to visit in Summer of 2017, when Africa Rocks opens and despite all the unfortunate cuts (Aye-Aye, Zebra, Warthog) and animals that were speculated but never made it to plans (Hyena- Made early plans, Lion). I hope it lives up to the hype unlike some elephant exhibit they built .
