From Facebook, "As the Erie Zoo values each animal as a member of our family and yours, we have to announce that two of our special friends have passed on. Aries one of our male Llamas (all white) and Ariel the Zebra. Aries has walked in countless parades. He loved to put his zoo vest on and strut his stuff. He was almost 17 years old which is well into senior years for a llama. He had severe arthritis which caused other related health issues. Ariel left us at the age of 34. This is beyond an impressive age for a Zebra. She was a shy zebra that like to keep to herself. But you always knew it was a complete trip to the zoo if you caught a glimpse of her beautiful stripes. It is never easy to lose a member of your family."
"We are pleased to announce the birth of our newest addition, a baby boy Orangutan. Born on February 1st, 2017, Dasa and Joseph are being excellent parents, and big brother Ollie has adapted well to no longer being the center of attention. This baby is the pair’s third offspring, with Leela being the first born in 2003. Ollie was born in 2009 and will also move on to another zoo in the next year or so."
