On January 1st, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) prehensile-tailed porcupine was born.

On February 4th, the zoo announced that they have rescued a (0.1) domestic chicken (breed not specified) from a busy road and are looking for its owners.

On February 7th, the zoo announced the chicken is going home with an animal keeper who has bonded with said chicken, and has been named Cherry.

Joe the Bornean orangutan has died.

 

He passed away on March 19th due to labored breathing and lethargy after having heart failure.

On April 14th, the zoo announced that due to avian influenza, many of their birds have been taken off exhibit.

On May 6th, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) red-necked wallaby was born.

On April 7th, it was announced that a (0.1) prehensile-tailed porcupine named Bailee was transferred to the Dallas Zoo in Texas.

Today marks the opening of a new colobus monkey enclosure, which takes the place of the former giraffe area.

New Primate Habitat now open at Erie Zoo

 

On August 23rd, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) bearded dragon named Stanley from the Anna Shelter in Pennsylvania, which he will be an ambassador animal.

On September 12th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) African lion named Nala has passed away at age 24 due to diminishing quality of life.

On September 17th, the zoo announced that their (1.0) Amur tiger named Viktor has passed away at age 17.

On October 4th, it was reported that the zoo has acquired/will be acquiring (1.1) Allen's swamp monkeys and (1.1) lesser spot-nosed guenons which will be added to the new colobus monkey exhibit, a (0.0.1) Père David's deer which will be added into the Safari Land area, and (1.1) red pandas.

Another Pennsylvania zoo received a cash grant for an animal hospital - this time it’s Erie; they are hoping the project will aid them in regaining AZA accreditation.

Erie Zoo to get $3 million for new vet center

 

On November 1st, the zoo announced they were gifted $250,000 from PA state representative Bob Merski which will be used to enhance the African-painted dog exhibit, as well as create a gender-neutral bathroom in the Kiboka Outpost area.

On November 9th, the zoo announced they acquired a (0.1) Pere David's deer named Lisa who will be a companion animal for the facility's male, Tai Long.
