2 Goodfellow's tree kangaroos have been born recently in Frankfurt. One is still in Frankfurt, the other is back in Krefeld, the mother was just on breeding loan for a few months in Frankfurt and with mission accomplished she is back at Krefeld.

    2 Bonobos born at Frankfurt :) :

    BONOBOGEBURTEN im ZOO FRANKFURT

Innerhalb von zwei Tagen gab es bei den Bonobos zwei Geburten im Frankfurter Zoo. Die beiden Jungtiere wurden am 20. und 21. Dezember geboren. Ein schöner und zugleich wichtiger Zuchterfolg. Glückwünsche nach Frankfurt, wir freuen uns mit dem Zoo über dieses vorweihnachtliche Geschenk im Borgori-Wald. [IMG]:)

There have been some rumors that Frankfurt would want to replace the Grzimek house with a more generic house, but these plans are off the table, as they seem to have realized how unique this house is in Europe. They have now started to connect smaller enclosures (through tunnels behind the scenes) and they will increase the number of mixed-species enclosures. Votsotsa will soon live with the Aye-Aye for example (after having gone from the zoo for several years)

Now that i have finished posting my photos on the gallery here are some observations on my visit on the last day of MAY. The black howler monkeys are now in a large indoor exhibit next to the ticket booth at the entrance. The feline house indoor was closed due to the
asian lioness caring for her cubs. sadly, i did not the rusty spotted cats because of this. The andean bear - bushdog enclousure was great, both species quite active and together. What a great exhibit it was. White cheeked gibbons were indoors. After went pass the common seals and cape fur seals to the Exotarium. Much of the aquarium is freshwater, though the crowds were watching the gentoo penguins being fed. For me the most interesting species of the large reptile collection were 3 ploughshore tortoises, very active and a a pair of slender snouted crocodiles. Kiwi house was closed. Then to the Grzimek house. What a great place. Various new species for me. At the nocturnal section there were aadvarks with active galagos, mouse lemurs, quolls, aye -aye, cloud rats, equidnas. all quite active. Photos are not allowed here and i obeyed. My wife was surprised to see her first black and rufous elephant shrews. I think i had seen them at the Bronx zoo, but nice to find them here again. My first kowaris. Some nice primate exhibits in the daytime section too. We saw the gorillas, sumatran orangutans and the bonobos all very active feeding indoors. At the bird house i saw tarictic hornbills for the first time. The largest indoor exhibit held a pair of marabou storks, I understand shoebill storks were here before. The old monkey house is rather disappointing. The bird of prey area held bearded vulture, king vulture, bateleur eagles, egyptian vulture and ravens. The crane and pelicans enclousures are quite nice. West caucasian ibex herd lives in a hilly pen which had held takin.A trio of Mhorr gazelle are there , and addax have replaced sable antelope. We had curry bratwurst and beer at the restaurant. I enjoyed the high quality of the Frankfurt zoo, though a part is closed for a future exhibit for south american penguins..

According to the Zootierliste an Aye-Aye was born this year in Frankfurt, which if it survives would be the second successful breeding of this species at the zoo.

How long would it take to visit Frankfurt Zoo?
The zoo closes at 7pm but do the houses close earlier ?
