What is the story behind this? They have them signed as 'Owl Monkey' (Aotus trivirgatus).

    Some additions to the list:

    1. Lesser Spot-nosed Monkey (Cercopithecus petaurista) is kept at Central Florida Zoo

    2. Common Marmoset is kept at Out of Africa Safari in Arizona.

    3. Emperor Tamarin (subgrisescens) is kept at Smithsonian National Zoo.

    Possible subtractions and questions:

    1. Goeldi's Marmoset was not at Staten Island Zoo last I visited (April 2022).

    2. Pygmy Slow Loris and Mohol Bush Baby were not at Philadelphia Zoo when I went (April 2022), were they in the Small Mammal House? It is currently closed, but at least that means they're still there.
Brown Spider Monkey was also not in Philadelphia Zoo and I'm pretty sure its long gone. Only fusciceps is there now. And I also did not see any Sifaka while there, only Ringtail, Black-White Ruffed and Blue-eyed Black Lemurs.

    3. Can anyone confirm if Talapoin are still at Audubon Zoo? When I went (January 2022) there was signage but they were not on display. I've heard for a while that they've been off-display. Has anyone seen them in the last year?

Philly had a pair at last USDA inspection in Sept last year, assumably they still have the species.

USDA lists three individuals just over a year ago; @Kudu21 might know more?

Where is the source for Lupa Zoo having a hamlyns monkey. Louisville still has Woolly monkey?

    Which zoo do you mean?

The spider monkey was sent to Europe to breed. They have sifaka but their habitat is easy to miss.

It will be the same as when Tanganyika was said to have Hamlyn's, it will be "owl monkey" got mixed up as "Owl-Faced Monkey" somewhere along the way.

USDA inspection report... I should've double-checked that one! Yes, I was given confirmation by another zoochatter a few weeks ago that Lousiville still has two Woolly monkeys.

    Another question/subtraction:

Lion-tailed Macaques at Prospect Park Zoo? Surely this is a mistake? They were definitely not there the many times over the years I visited, and no online searches yield anything about them.

Unfortunately Daisy passed away recently, she was the last of kind outside her native range :/ Two white faced sakis are using her habitat.

Are there no more Hanuman Langurs left in North America? I was under the impression that Utah’s Hogle Zoo still had one or two elderly individuals still kicking, have they passed away?

A pair of Sulawesi Crested Macaques are kept at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo

I believe I heard somewhere there was a private zoo that held Assam Macaque, is this no longer the case?

Hemker Park does not keep Black Howler Monkey, Night Monkey or Brown Greater Galago

Umm… not to be condescending, but do you know how these numbers actually work? You are suggesting there are 48 male gorillas in North American zoos, yet only 3 females.

    I explained that here:
I know when it’s listed like that it usually is referring to sexes of the animals, that’s why I specified there. On hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have even listed it in that format. Sorry about that!

Why I always say USDA is not the end all be all source :p;)

    They're permanently off-exhibit.

I have no idea regarding Memphis, unfortunately.

Do any of these Gibbon species have viable populations or are they all phase out? It'd be really nice to see more diversity of gibbons in US Zoos- as most places only keep the three common species, and I'd love to see an increase of Holders for other species.

I think Javan and Pileated were at least once considered phase-in species, but I don't see that happening. The Javan population seems to be only 2-3 pairs and the European program is still trying to get its footing with so much of the breeding population owned by a man likely to try and chuck them into the wild to die for his own publicity at any moment, so we can't expect imports from EAZA. Tbh it'd probably be best if our few breeding animals were sent there. Pileated I believe has a larger population but most of the animals are at Wildlife World, a place the AZA probably plans to further distance itself from.

All the others are phase-outs sadly. I'm pretty sure Hemker's current animals are the ones LA had, too. There are about 11 hoolock left at the GCC, but all the females are on birth control. They haven't been able to place any of the young they've bred and don't plan on breeding them anymore. When I visited in 2018, the owner was even open to the idea of shipping them back to wherever they initially came from. A shame really, but can't say I blame her given their limited space and the fact that no one else wants to work with them.
