Guess the species? #1

    well most of the photos have been guessed correctly in the above three posts, but I'll leave specifics till my evening time, because all the Northern Hemisphere posters are probably now asleep and that seems fair. So everybody else keep the guesses coming till then!

    I guess:

    1. I am pretty sure it's a kea, but everyone guessed that, so I'll hedge my bets and say kaka
    2. Komodo dragon
    3. Two-toed sloth
    4. No idea, but wekas on Google images looks like a good guess
    5. I'll be a bit different and say EASTERN grey kangaroo to pay homage to my neighbourhood macropods

    Yeah, there are at least 5 toes visible. Good spot.

    However, the literature suggests that both two-toed and three-toed sloths have three toes on their hind legs - and the pic appears to show its hind legs. So who knows? Hmmm......

    It looks a bit on the darker brown side, so I would still probably go with (Linnaeus's) two-toed sloth.

    Or I could be totally wrong. :D

    OK, still without being specific (yet):

    *American_birds got two out of five correct
    *FBBird and DesertRhino150 both got four out of five correct
    *Javan Rhino unfortunately wasn't specific enough in his guess so has to be discounted (whether right or wrong)
    *nanoboy's post was a bit "guess-y" and he almost managed it, but in the end only got four out of five correct (bonus points for his post directly above, though, in which he got the sloth absolutely correct with his suggestion of Linnaeus' two-toed sloth -- I have let everyone else with just two-toed sloth because I'm kind)
    *Hevden has three out of five correct


    So, sort your way through all of that and someone will come up with a winning post containing all five species correct!

    If Desert Rhino and FBBird both got 4 correct, and the only discrepancy in their answers was #4, then we can be sure that the macropod is neither a western grey nor a red kangaroo.

    Therefore, I will specifically state that my first guess is a kea, and my fourth guess is an Eastern Grey. :D

    and nanoboy wins it! I'll be generous and say he pretty much won it before but he was just too indecisive between kea and kaka.

    The photos were:
    1) Kea, taken at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve (Chch, NZ)
    2) Komodo Dragon, taken in the wild on Komodo Island
    3) Linnaeus' Two-toed Sloth, taken at Singapore Zoo
    4) Weka, taken in the wild on the West Coast of NZ
    5) Eastern Grey Kangaroo, taken at Alma Park Zoo (Brisbane, Australia)

    Well, here are a few VERY easy ones to keep you going.

    I will step away for a few hours and not comment on your guesses, to give everyone, of varying abilities, the chance to have a fair go. :D

    Please be as specific as you can be in your answers, especially with the reptile. "Caiman" is not a valid answer. ;)

    I might sit this one out I think..... I am indecisive on one and two; three looks so familiar but I can't for the life of me place it; I know what four is without a doubt; and five -- well, lets just say that the identification of underwater shots of crocodylians obviously isn't my strong point!!

    Lol, so much for "VERY easy" nanoboy :D

    what the answer is...

    I have no idea AT ALL now of what 3 is... a camel? It looks like a furry ungulate at first glance, but then like a bear/wombat/thingy... :confused:

    I'm not good with birds... (#4).

    And the crocodilian, same as Chlidonias, not my strong point; no one's even taken a guess at that one yet. Sure, nanoboy, easy alright. ;)

    I'm locking it in... Bactrian Camel is my final answer for #3.
    And #5... Nile Crocodile. So, OK, here we go:

    1. Alexandrine Parakeet

    It looks that the birds are settled so I´ll just try to throw in my guess on the 3rd and 5th picture...

    3 - Wild Boar
    5 - American Alligator
