As of today, sumatran tigers and snow leopards have been added to their collection plans. Coincidence?
I live in the Grampians, but don't look at me. I love Snow leopards, and it'd be cool if they got them there as on the very odd occasion it snows up at Halls Gap.
I think it would be great at many of these lurkers, such as this one from the Grampians, would contribute to the forum. Why should anyone be afraid of sharing opinion and information!
Just to clarify Ben, because there's just a tiny hint of ambiguity in this post, I don't actually believe that my post and HGZ's collection plans are related.
Umm.... Dawn B? Zebraduiker/Charly/Tarsius? Sun Wukong? If your opinion is different to theirs.......... Hix
don't forget yourself Hix -- didn't Dawn B say she'd been pre-warned that you think you own this site?
Guess where I went today? And only had to share the zoo with one other couple & their baby (I was also there as a parents + 1 group). It was GREAT! Despite the rain, and flooding, all the animals were quite active! My favourite would have to have been the big Bison. They came right up to the fence to check us out. We had a ball!
Publicity Halls Gap is getting some good publicity recently with a segment on Postcards and this piece in Pieces of Victoria: Pieces of Victoria, Media Bulletin - Tourism Victoria
Does anyone know what is planned for Halls Gap this year I hope it plans to expand at the current rate, I know there are plans for an alligator exhibit, new spider monkey exhibit and for the zoo to get pygmy marmosets is there anything else?
Just a little bit of inside info, new alligator exhibit is up and running and looks AMAZING - gorgeous artwork on the back wall by a local artist, new spider monkey exhibit is well underway - though no pgmy marmosets for the minute. It is definitely expanding at the rate of knots and looking better every year. I think you should all go and visit if you ahven't already been!! and if you have you should go again
We're planning to have our daughter's 2nd birthday there next month. We actually bought a family pass in Sept, and haven't had the chance to get back there yet.
Halls gap had 2 twin monkeys born a few days ago (not sure which species), but the Mum rejected them, and they died from exposure overnight. But also some good news - Greg & Yvonne are looking to have zebra's & giraffe's by the end of the year. Such exciting news for my home zoo.
Cotton Top Tamarins - and yes unfortunately they didn't make it through that first night. Hopefully the second breeding pair will have some offspring soon. And the Spider Monkey pair are settling in and we are hoping for some cute babies there too sometime this year.
On the latest news release it says that they will be getting giraffe and zebra with them aiming to acquire them by the end of this year.
For those interested, I just uploaded a pic of the Red Panda enclosure, and a pic of one of the red panda's to the Halls Gap Zoo gallery, for anyone interested. There are two enclosures next to eachother, basically the fenceline between the 2 in right in the middle between the 2 large trees you see in the photo. Hubby noticed that on the gate to enter where the deer are, it says they are hoping to acquire not just the zebra/giraffes mentioned in an earlier post here, but also lions. I missed it, as he was holding the gate open for me. There's also a sign on the old dingo enclosure saying it will be turned into a pen for Tree Kangaroos. The Zoo is just looking fantastic in general, and still travelling at a rapid rate of knots as far as new species go. Even the dirt was nice & freshly raked - reminded me of the cleanliness of Australia Zoo, just on a smaller scale. We definitely plan to re-new our annual pass when it comes time in Sept.
