Hello! My name is Meredith and I reside in Texas. I have always wanted to be a Zoologist but life had different plans for me. I am now a high school teacher, married with two children. Although I like teaching, it is definitely not my true passion. I wish each and everyday I had followed my dreams and worked towards a job with animals, most in particular wildlife. I am afraid that now I am too old to pursue those dreams and I am stuck. Has anyone else been able to accomplish switching careers into the field of Zoology, especially in their 40s?? It seems like such a far-fetched idea that I would be crazy to try it now.

Welcome! I think it's possible at any age, though it might take more work. A great start would be volunteering at your local zoo (Houston?). Zoos often look to their volunteers for other positions, especially within the education department.

Welcome! Realizing your dream of working with wildlife as a paying career will hinge on getting the required education credentials and willingness to relocate to where the work is. Another option (as already stated above) is to start volunteering locally and see where that takes you. Good luck!
