Jurek7 whatever happened to your other exhibits? I stumbled across this thread and was interested to see more from you. I like how you give descriptions of your exhibit areas instead of just writing a species list.

If I were lucky enough to have my own zoo, animals I definitely would NOT have in it would be: Meerkats, Short-clawed Otters, Red-necked Wallabies, Bactrian Camels, Snowy Owls, Eurasian Eagle Owls, Capybara, Squirrel Monkeys, African Crested Porcupine, Burmese Python, Green Iguanas, and Leopard Geckos.
It is not that I dislike any of these animals (there is no kind of animal, excepting parasites, I do not like); it's just that they are so ubiquitous. You can see them all over the place. Everywhere you go - the same animals. It seems to me that zoos (in Britain anywhere) are obeying some sort of providential Commandment: "Thou shalt have Meerkats, Short-clawed Otters and a walk-through wallaby paddock."

I think that's because most people only visit their local zoo, and there's not many people who don't want to see meerkats or get close up wallabies.

That for sure, no snakes are allowed in NZ, I'd kill for my local zoo to have a great reptile house..!

God people, stop picking on the kids! It's not his fault some stupid zoos and people have led him astray regarding tigers, just tell him properly.

Yes i agree the African/Asian Lion rule is rather pointless.
My local zoo said they where thinking of keeping Asians the other side of the park but they now cant.
Its all to stop inbreeding but as more zoos are starting to house animals Geographically this is never going to happen.
What would happen if this would go with tigers? Especially with places like Howletts and Port Lympne housing both 2-3 species in many enclosures,Quite a few collections hold more than one species of tigers so what would fill all that extra space?
This would probably not happen as it would be almost impossible to inforce.
But still its a big blow for Big Cat Specialising Collections with the African/Asian Lion rule.

It just dawned on me that South lakes isn't the only place in the UK to house Sumatran and Amur tigers like it claims to! Come on

Just a small point, and I may be wrong, but aren't Meerkats and Slender-tailed Mongooses the same species?

i uderstand that. you can have more than one species of lion if you want (but ya wont be in the WAZA), but it would cost billios to get javen rhinos! sorry if i offended you, but javens could not be done. even though ya could not get javens, a very interesting list

I wasnt questionning anyone i was just talking about the 2 species rule which i think we all agree is rather pointless ;)
Anyone like my Zoo list? in the last page?
Its abit small but it doesnt matter how many species a zoo has if they are looked after great then its all fine :), Quite alot of the species will have more than 1 enclosure etc.
