This question is meant for people like me who have not yet, but hope to someday, visit(ed) outside there home country. (When answering this question, obviously your own country doesn't count.) For me I'd chose: Australia Costa Rica (I will most likely be visiting this country next year! ) Democratic Republic of Congo Japan Kenya I chose the countries I did predominately for their wildlife. Also for the record, I'd love to visit many more countries than this someday but these are my top 5.
Oh definitely. This list is a life goal and, with the exception of Costa Rica, I don't realistically expect to visit any of these countries any time soon
There are quite a few countries in Europe that I'll probably visit in the next couple of years and that I'd love to see (like Romania & Bulgaria). I won't include Vietnam as I'm planning a visit later this year - but from a natural history point of view, there are a few that might need quite a bit more organising, so in that regard I'd have to say my top five are: 1. New Guinea 2. Colombia 3. Borneo (not just one country admittedly, but the island would be amazing) 4. At least one of Ivory Coast, Liberia or Sierra Leone (not the safest places I admit) 5. China Another impossible dream would be to visit the DMZ between north & south Korea
I'm going to do countries I haven't yet visited and not include the handful of countries I have. 1. Papua New Guinea. Birds of paradise; cassowary; bowerbirds; other birds; marsupials; echidnas; a variety of unique herps. 2. Indonesia. Similar to above, plus the many animals found further to the west. 3. Namibia. Geology and megafauna. 4. Georgia. Subtropical forests near the Black Sea; the meadows, badlands, and woodlands of Vashlovani, with its Transcaucasian wildlife; cave cities; the towers of Svaneti; and the majesty of the Greater Caucasus, with several species of goats and goat-like animals. 5. Madagascar. Like New Guinea, it has a unique fauna. Probably even more so, since New Guinea is technically part of the same continental mass as Australia, Sahul.
I feel like if you really only have five choices then taking PNG as well as Indonesia is doubling up a little too much. Still, each to their own.
1. The Vatican - I want to experience a nation that is very religous and has lots of culture. 2. Germany - Great country for zoos and I want to visit the Anne Frank Museum. 3. Kenya - In my opinion, the media always shows Kenya's bad side. I want to go to Nairobi and see for myself the economic prosperity. 4. Russia - I want to see the singing of the national anthem, it is beautiful. 5. Ireland - Curious about the conditions of Irish zoos.
I had the enormous privilege of spending a reasonable amount of time in DR Congo in 1989 (when it was still Zaire). An extraordinary country, with wildlife, countryside and people which made it stand out. Epulu, home of the okapi centre, would rank as one of my absolute favourite places ever! I believe there is a museum in Berlin, but if you’re interested in Anne Frank you’re probably better advised looking towards the Netherlands: Amsterdam was where she was in hiding, and where her house can be seen.
I feel like i’m privileged considering everyone wants to visit Australia, and I get to live here. I’ll say 3 words, ‘Beware the weather!’. Ok Jambo, get back on topic. My country’s that I would like to visit, would be: Iceland, Brazil, Democratic of the republic, Figi and Sumatra.
Well, if you want to know my reasoning a little more, I'm obsessed with New Guinea's fauna more than any other part of the world, and while New Guinea could technically be included by just having Indonesia, there are some species only found in West Papua or only found in Papua New Guinea but not the other half of the island. As someone who would be curious to see the different species of birds of paradise, bowerbirds, parrots, other avifauna, forest dragons, tree kangaroos and other marsupials, bats, etc., I would love to see both sides of the island to see the local diversity in different parts of the island. Perfectionist? Perhaps. It's just that it's an island whose fauna interests me more than any other.
I've already visited: Canada, USA, UK (where I live), France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Austria. So I'd like to visit: Kenya, then India, then Russia (for the Amur leopards and tigers), then China and also Brazil. Quite typical, I know apart from Russia, but couldn't think of much else.
I feel sooo privileged living in the UK! Um... weather though? It was hailing this afternoon and has been all week!
