I would not say any zebras mix particularly “well”, some just mix “better” than others. I certainly would not say any zebras mix well with young of other species — even zebras that have integrated well into mixed herds have been known to attack and kill offspring of other species. It is not a risk that is worth taking.

As Kudu21 said zebras are just very aggressive animals. In the past the zebras and the male ostrich Roscoe has showed aggression towards each other and with a baby Greater Kudu being born almost every year it is to big of a risk to house the zebras with the kudus. Currently the zebras do rotate with the other animals and when they are in the main yard they are usually with the wildebeest and marabou stork. It’s just depends on the day and what time you go as some times the zebras are in the back on the other side of the bridge and sometimes they are in the main yard.

Zebras were in with wildebeest, vulture, female ostrich today. Kudu we’re on the other side of the bridge. The baby was with them. Tiger cubs still aren’t out. There was, however, a sign with (archived) footage of them. The eagles were off exhibit. So were the walrus. Really starting to wonder what’s going on there.

Didn’t go in to any of the buildings so no updates there.

Has anyone tried asking a staff member why the walruses have been off exhibit for so long? Or tried messaging the zoo on Facebook?

The Amur tiger triplets are now on display:

Indianapolis zoo tiger cubs: Female triplet makes public debut Friday

The Amur tiger triplets, born at the zoo in May, began making their public debuts Friday.

The zoo cautioned visitors that the cubs will be adjusting to being in their new habitat, so not every visitor will immediately get to see them.

Some sad news regarding Roman the Amur tiger cub:

Indianapolis Zoo mourns death of 4-month-old tiger cub | wthr.com

The zoo announced Wednesday that Roman, one of three Amur tigers, has died.

The cub was born with a congenital defect that caused health concerns and while surgery was performed to correct the defect, his condition continued to decline.

Indianapolis now has seals in the walrus habitat. I just now noticed, not sure how long they've been there

I saw the seals on the Walrus Cam. That’s definitely not concerning, right?

The usual grey / harbor seals? It’s looking ever more likely they phased out the walruses at this point. Wonder if that means they’re renovating Oceans, or at least the sea lion area, next.

The walruses are temporarily off exhibit, they're renovating/repairing the sea lion/seal pool.

Yeah, the pinniped exhibit could definitely use an upgrade.

I suppose they could expand the sea lion pool now that the entry is further back. Fill in the moat, take up more of the plaza.

It is concerning, but Indianapolis has never been very transparent about their marine mammals.

Yeah, they're not phasing out walruses anytime soon. The walruses being off exhibit is just temporary due to the seal/sea lion pool refurbishment.

Is this certain or speculative? The walruses have been off habitat since ~April-June, with only very rare exceptions (they were still in holding and doing tours which I last saw in late August, however). The seals only moved in very recently. I'm curious as to why it was only those two and not the sea lions, as well.

They had a sign up yesterday advising that Walruses will be back Spring 2023.

The lemurs were still off exhibit yesterday, and then saw a sign on one side saying “Our lemurs are moving to wonderful new homes in the animal care community. Watch for updates on the new exhibit coming soon to this space.” There was also a large structure going up by the old lemur exhibit.

Construction of some structure is going up in the dog arena area. The eagles are off exhibit temporarily, and the building/shelter that was in their exhibit is gone. There is also a large exhibit going up in the parking lot with tall platforms, and we heard rumors of it being the chimpanzee exhibit that’s coming. They also cut the meerkat exhibit in half in the desert biome, and now there is a sandcat on display. I’ll try to get photos uploaded soon.

So many changes and new exhibits coming it seems! Can’t wait to see it all!

With this being my home zoo this all sounds exciting! Though, I kinda wish the zoo would release more details about what’s coming, but I understand if they want to keep some things secret.
