I’m trying to find out what happened to a chimp called Jasper who was transferred to Pretoria zoo from Southport in the Uk in 1984 aged 6 years old
This article from 2012 mentions him (assuming it the same Jasper) still being alive and that he had sired two offspring called Caroline and Borris. It also mentions him being 35 years old at the time which would roughly add up to him being 6 years old in 1984. PressReader.com - Your favorite newspapers and magazines.
The 2014 studbook (available online) confirms that he was exported from Southport to Pretoria in June 1984. As of 2014 he was still alive and living at Pretoria Zoo
Conversely, this article from late 2015 says that the Pretoria Zoo had been without Chimpanzees for three years until the new arrival of two animals from Israel: Chimps back in Pta zoo - Rekord East This other article from Jan 2016 (Pretoria Zoo finally has chimps again | News24) has a quote from the zoo, so it does not appear to be a journalist error: "The zoo had not had chimps for a number of years and has heeded the requests from its visitors to once again [house]... these charismatic primates." I suspect Jasper died not long after Jenny did, in 2012 (in Benosaurus' link).
