how many threads have we had on this topic, but anyway, heres your answer, 1, edinburgh zoo. in the 90s after the pandas left, london zoo needed a new celebrity, so they aquired queensland koalas, they were 2 brothers and their sister, but one of the brothers died of a face tumor, so they decided to give them up. they were housed 9in london) in the roundhouse were he ring tailed lemurs and aye-ayes live now
Edinburgh Zoo currently house 2 males,as Cat-Man says London did keep them in the 90`s but I`m pretty certain they only had 2 females one of which died as a result of a tumor but it wasn`t on the face will have to check this out un-less Tim May can beat me to it.
London Zoo housed the koalas in the Round House in 1991. The 2 females Mije and Billi were captive-bred and on loan from San Diego Zoo. Mije died rather unexpectedly in November 1991 and the other female was then returned overseas.
San Diego actually hold the stud book for koalas and therefore control all movements of koalas in zoos around the world outside of Australia. Edinburgh acts as a 'holdong' zoo for males in the breeding programme.
