Now that the project Safari is done you start wondering what's next. Here are some plans: Porpoises in the Sealbassain Red panda lemurs New ape house
Just how certain are these plans? Where will the red pandas go? And what sort of lemurs are we talking about?
Kolmården wants to be a great theme park destination, like Animal Kingdom and Busch Gardens Tampa. Probably we will se lots of big investments in the park the following years.
Does that mean less emphasis on maintaining and upgrading the animal collection? Can you tell us a little more re. the current giraffe herd? Any new rhinos (as in little ones expected)? The Masterplan: any individual time-lining for the projects you mentioned?
No, we will probably se new and old species in new themed areas, maybe they will add a new animal inspired roller coaster or another attraction but the animals is always the importent part. As Kolmården says, for learning you also need to have fun! Nine giraffes, one of them born in Mars 2011. They al live in the Safari area now. Six rhinos, Banyari (male), Imfolozi (female), Mashikishiki, (daughter Imfolozi - ?) , Izala (daughter Imfolozi - ?) , Jala (daughter Imfolozi - Banyari) Jala was born in late 2009, so hopefully an new baby rhino will be born soon, but it´s nothing I know fore sure. Al of the female rhinos (except Jala) is interesting in the breeding, Banyari has no family connection to them, they al came from Africa in 2003. They have a masterplan that reaches to 2020, and there goal is 1 million visitors a year. This year they hope for 700 000 visitors. This park has al opportunities to grow, it´s out in the forest with enormous space, cose to the capital city Stockholm, railways, airports, Finland ferry. Finland is the second largest group of visitors (after Swedes, ofc)
It just read that Kolmården and Dolfinarium Harderwijk is working on an agreement that includes using Brådjupet (seal bassain) as a home for rescued porpoise (but not as a rehabilitation center). There is also a new big attraction opening in 2014, hopefully it includes a new gorilla habitat The owners also says they want to build a new hotel on the savanna, but it will take some time before the tourists can experience that.
