This is an attempt to list every species on exhibit at Greater Cleveland Aquarium during my visit on 6-27-16. I am arranging the list by the current visitor map by the named zones as they are encountered along its one-way route. I am including species for which there is a sign on each exhibit. This is not intended to be a full account of the collection. Also, species on exhibit are sometimes moved, so some that were there one day may have disappeared from public view the next. This list may be of more interest to those already familiar with the aquarium since I am not arranging the species by animal type. I will list each zone in a separate entry in the thread for clarity. All exhibits are indoors. OHIO LAKES & RIVERS: (14 Exhibits) These exhibits are within a room with a mix of elements: plain walls, mural walls, simulated stream rockwork, simulated foliage, and exposed-brick walls that are the structure of the former powerhouse in which the aquarium facility is located. PACIFIC: (7 Exhibits) These exhibits are set in a narrow exposed-brick L-shaped hallway. The map lists them all as being in one zone, but the species identification signs list the first 3 exhibits as being Indo-Pacific while the other 4 exhibits are Northern Pacific. SHARK SEATUBE: (1 Exhibit) This exhibit is by far the largest one at the aquarium; one side of it is viewed through large windows in a dark room dominated by the exposed-brick and steel structure of the former powerhouse building, which has been featured throughout rather than hidden. The other 3 sides of the exhibit are traversed by a long tunnel (169 linear feet) that makes several angles and turns, starting and ending in the room where the exhibit is first viewed. The interior of the tank is detailed with an average amount of simulated rock outcrops and a small shipwreck, but is rather shallow (9 feet) for one of this size (230,000 gallons). A sign says that it contains 34 species, but I could only find identification signs for 30 species: Atlantic Nurse Shark Black Drum Black Grouper Blacknose Shark Blue Angelfish Blue Runner Blue Striped Grunt Coney Grouper Cownose Ray Crevalle Jack Dusky Squirrelfish French Angelfish French Grunt Goliath Grouper Gray Angelfish Great Amberjack Great Barracuda Green Moray Eel Lookdown Fish Porcupine Pufferfish Queensland Grouper Red Grouper Reef Squirrelfish Rock Hind Grouper Rooster Hogfish Sandbar Shark Sandtiger Shark Shark Sucker Southern Stingray Yellowtail Snapper
EXPLORATION STATION: (3 Exhibits?) The main part of the aquarium is on one floor; after exiting the aquarium, there is a second floor area of two rooms on the map called Exploration Station which appears to mostly be children's education area. I missed this area, although there was a sign on the main floor stating that there was an electric eel exhibit on the second floor. Looking at the map, which is mostly drawn correctly, it appears that there is a single exhibit for that species in one room, while another room seems to show 2 more exhibits for what I assume are other species. So I will count them in the exhibit total. 3 aquariums of unknown size, I did not see them; at least 1 contains: Electric Eel
SUMMARY: By my count, the total number of exhibits currently at Greater Cleveland Aquarium is: 53 By my count, the total number of species in permanent exhibits is: 211 The number of species I counted can be broken down into the following categories: Mammals: 0 Birds: 0 Reptiles: 13 Amphibians: 4 Fish: 168 Invertebrates: 26
