Little Ponderosa Zoo and Rescue is a facility located in Anderson County, Tennesse. It exhibits animals from both the native and exotic variety, and this post will be the news from February 10th-July 30th, 2021.

On February 10th, 2021, the zoo announced that the founder and owner of the zoo, James Cox, has passed away on February 9th.

On February 21st, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) goat (breed not listed) named Miracle was born.

On March 19th, the zoo announced a seasonal Easter exhibit, with rescued domesticated rabbits as the main feature.

On March 24th, the zoo announced they have taken in a (1.0) red-tailed hawk who has suffered from temporary blindness in both of his eyes.

On May 4th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) vervet monkey named Lebron and a (1.0) patas monkey named Jerry from a private facility.

On June 12th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) Russian tortoise named Jimmy, as well as a "couple" parakeets (species name not given) and a (0.0.1) cockatiel.

News between August 1st-November 15th, 2021

On August 7th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) Argentine black-and-white tegu from a private owner. He was later named Terrence.

Also on August 7th, the zoo officially opened their newly renovated outdoor enclosure for their African crested porcupines and their newly renovated indoor enclosure for their tortoises.

On September 6th, it was announced that the (0.0.1) African crested porcupine baby has made its first appearance in the outside exhibit.

On September 15th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) domesticated rooster from the Tennessee Valley Fair through a private owner.

On January 22nd, 2023, the zoo announced that their (0.1) domestic dog (breed not specified) named Dolly passed away at the age of 17.

I see we're back to posting purely about births and deaths of domestics, something numerous other members have expressed their frustration over before. This is also the perfect example of a zoo that just clutters up the forum and maybe doesn't need minor news covered due to lack of interest- looking back at this thread, this post by me is the first time any other member has interacted with it. So much for being a discussion-based forum...

 

I will say some of the posts in this thread do help with holder lists and I have referenced threads like this one for my primate list, but I agree that we really don't need any news about domestics in here. I've genuinely lost count how many times that has been repeated to this same member and at this point, I'm not too confident we'll ever see him listen to us.

 

Ok duly noted, if it is just domestic news I won't post it unless I can pair it with more exotic news.

It's comments like this that make me not want to listen to your personal opinions on how I post news, because it comes off as condescending

 

I don't think he's doing anything wrong by sharing news about domestic animals. He's just sharing news about zoos, which is what this thread is for.

 

Just leave it off please. Most of us are not interested in domestics news.

Given that you have repeatedly gotten snippy and rude with many of us both publicly and privately in response to civil criticism, you tend to set yourself up for pointed criticism. In this case, quite a number of members have told you numerous times to leave off the domestics, but it keeps circling back in anyways. Continuing to double back on things you've said you'd do will draw criticism.

 

If you're not interested, then maybe you should ignore it.

 

We're not talking about just one or two members not being interested. Numerous long time members have asked for news about domestics to be left off- they clutter up news threads with information most members of the site don't care about. It's also the sheer quantity of domestics-related content. I wouldn't care to occasionally see domestics-related news come up, especially in regards to new species to a zoo, but it gets frustrating to see every single death or birth of a goat being reported on here by only a handful of members.

The point remains that this is a discussion forum, not a news forum, so news posts should be those with a potential of starting discussion, and posts about the births and deaths of goats are not in the interest of starting a discussion.

 

As Neil stated, quite a number of members have said they are not interested in this sort of information being posted. It does not need to be shared on an international forum. Domestic births and deaths are extremely common and result in clutter more than anything. It is not a hard request to not post it, it would save time more than anything.

 

It's hard to ignore when you get an alert from a thread for a zoo you've been expecting some exciting news from and you open it only to find that some goat has given birth for the fifth time...
