The wildebeast(is this the correcet spelling?) herd is up to five,i believe all male.Anyone have an idea on females?
ISIS list Longleat as having 7 males(7.0). They got the first four from Port Lympne. I don't know about the later 3- also from PL or somewhere else? Is it now 5 or 7? It may be harder for them to access females if the other parks that have them want to breed their groups up.
This may be wrong but do Marwell have brindled gnu and if so,are they from there?I just have a feeling they do...
Went to Longleat today for their Christmas opening. The giraffe feeding station is being constructed near the entrance to the reserve for the public to feed the giraffes. The new Gorilla Island (which is actually on land) is being built down by the sealion beach/pelican area of the lake. The Cheetahs were out in their quarantine enclosure. There are now two tapirs, so Im assuming a new male has been brought in for Jess after the death of Jethro last year. Anne was out in her yard, and seemed to be looking well, even in this cold weather!
Good news to hear Mafui's blood live's another generation. How old is he and who is his mate(s) and where did she/they come from?
Kumali was born in April 2003 at Longleat. His mate is Zazzi she was born in 2000. The other two females are Zazzi's cubs and not Kumali's! The other two cubs were born at Longleat their names are Niyaka and Miska.
