The original three that came to Wroclaw are the RSCC lot. The three 2016 arrivals are from a private collection.

Best Zoo had/has both the dorcopsis and the pademelon. (Though one of them is currently behind the scenes). The owner is also the main source of Eastern wallaroo in Europe.

The pademelons are "managed" as belonging to two bloodlines, so either that is about the two females from Plzen, or there are other founders.

Although there are some notable exceptions, many marsupials are quite difficult and expensive to take care of, so unless they are really something special (think koala), many zoos aren't interested in keeping them. But lots of species are present in private collections, which explains how some species just seem to appear out of nowhere every now and then (Dorcopsis, cuscus, several wallaby species).

As noted above, they aren't :p I contacted the collection regarding this matter back when they initially arrived.

it really shouldn't be too difficult to get new stock if zoos were interested - they are common in Indonesian zoos (and I've seen them in other Asian countries' zoos too). The Indonesian zoos source them originally from the Indonesian part of New Guinea.

Came across a photo in a facebook group today of some white-striped dorcopsis at BestZOO. Never heard of them or seen them so i got curious and looked them up on zootierliste. But that surprised me because they where not listed at any holder on zootierliste, also not at former holdings. Looked further and saw they are listed as brown dorcopsis with the text "listed as white-striped dorcopsis". So what is true? Are they the white-striped dorcopsis or the brown dorcopsis?

There is a lot of contention about this. The dorcopsis in captivity are all the same, but none of them look enough like brown dorcopsis....but at the same time, none of them have the dorsal white stripe of the white-striped dorcopsis. Current guesses put them at either an undiscovered morph/subspecies of white-striped dorcopsis, hybrids between white-striped and brown dorcopsis, or possibly even an undiscovered species.
One thing is for certain; every single animal in private and public hands is the same type, whatever that may be.

The other suggested possibility is an undiscovered morph/subspecies of Brown Dorcopsis.

And to add to the confusion, some years ago Prague *did* have definite Brown Dorcopsis as well as the new and uncertain population :p
