I have been told that I look Latino in the right light, so I thought I would be his type. Talk about a jealous ex! Sheesh!
No more scrub fowl but we do have owlet nightjars. There are other changes to that list too, additions and deletions. Depending on the nocturnal species, most are seen on the evening tour. Afraid I'm not that enamored with nocturnal houses. Good news is that if you come in during the day and book and pay for your evening tour that night, you can get free daytime admission for that day.
that sounds like a good deal to me! Did you have mahogany gliders there? Or am I thinking of the yellow-bellied gliders? And do you still have feather-tailed gliders? I love those little guys!
You must be thinking of the yellow bellies. Not at the moment as they are a managed species with a small population. However a couple are arriving in the next few weeks. Plenty of feathertails though.
you have a couple of mahoganeys arriving soon? That is cool. I saw yellow-bellieds at Taronga and was really surprised by their size. I thought they'd only be sugar glider sized!!
Sorry obviously not clear. It is the yellow bellied program we are in. We only have outdoor enclosures and I don't know how mahogany's would go here.
oh sorry, I misunderstood. You had a pair of yellow-bellieds arrive in 2008 from Taronga. Do you no longer have those and are getting a new pair in? Or are you getting more to add to the ones you already have?
Some time since I have been able to post. Recent additions to the bird collection include Regent Honeyeater, Eastern Whipbird, and Sacred Kingfisher. A new off-limit complex has been opened for Orange-bellied Parrots, with the generous assistance of a donation from the Avicultural Society of Australia. Yellow-bellied Gliders are now back on exhibit in the walk-in glider enclosure, and are coming down to feed from visitors on night tours. We recently won the City of Casey Tourism & Hospitality Business of the Year award.
Possum Wars documentry coming up The documentary "Possum Wars", some of which was filmed at Moonlit Sanctuary, has been scheduled for broadcast: 7.30pm Sunday 15 December 2013 on ABC1 You can catch a short trailer for the film here:
Possum Wars Saw a preview of Possum Wars last Tuesday, and it is quite entertaining. It will come to ABC1 this Sunday 15/12/13 at 7.30pm. It stars our Esmeralda as a young brushtailed possum who has had to leave her home in the park. She can be seen in scenes under a house roof and eating roses, amongst others. This is not Esmeralda's first flirtation with the film industry. She played a New Zealand possum in another ABC documentary, and was also in the Heath Ledger film, "Ned Kelly".
I must admit when I saw it I missed Moonlit Sanctuary in the credits too, however today somebody came in who said they did see our name!
Hmm that is odd, I included a link to a photo in the gallery which would have told you the species: barn owl. At the moment encounters will be held at 12.45 and cost $30. There will be a limit of 5 participants per day, and they can be booked. Another attempt at the link: http://www.zoochat.com/385/hootie-encounters-348907/
