Orangutans Mali had a stillborn baby before she moved to Paignton. Is it possible that the father was not Demo but another male?
No, they have done DNA tests on Mali`s baby because there was a second young male. It showed that Demo was the father of mali`s stillborn baby, while the second young male was the father of a surviving baby. I think that was the reason why Demo was sent with Mali to Paignton - they had already proven that they were coming along very well
Thanks. They are still getting on well and their liveliness has made the other two females more active. It's hoped that all three females are pregnant but they are keeping everyone guessing
I visited munster recently, and I was actually dissapointed. I had expected more of this zoo. Its a good zoo, no doubt about it, but dissapointing. The only parts I really liked were the monkey exhibits, especially the urang utan exhibit. I can't describe it, but it just didn't catch me.
The colobus, lemur and gorilla exhibits are much better than the orang-utan-exhibit. Their indoor enclosure is too small, they have wasted much space in there for plants and water moat....
The outdoor enclosure of the orang utans is a very good one. Indeed, the indoor enclosure is a little small in comparison, but not too small in my recollection. The lemur enclosure is good, but I have seen them better, and I really liked the colobus monkey exhibit.
I remember seeing these Sotalia dolphins on my first two visits to Nuremberg Zoo; were they the same specimens that were previously at Antwerp Zoo?
About 25 Tucuxi arrived 1977 in Europe, they were shared with several facilities. Sorry, I dont know where exactly.
The last Tucuxi or Sotalia Dolphin in Europe (named Pacu) has died on the 30th of December 2009. He became the oldest Tucuxi in captivity ever recorded, with an estimated age of around 40.

I just read @ zootierliste.de that munster got a male gaur from berlin( I went in march and the were only three females). As the three females are adults. Is the male they got also a full grown adult?
how old are the females? Is there a chance of breeding. Btw a lot of gaurs seem to come from Berlin can they be bred or are they all related?
The three females at Munster Zoo are adult. All gaurs in Europe are closely relatives. They are traced back to 1,2 imports to Munich Zoo in the early 1950s and 0,2 to Berlin Zoo in the late 1950s.

The Allwetter Zoo Munster had a nice birth on Feb. 6 : 1 Yellow-breasted capucine was born. It seems to be the first birth of this species at Munster.
A rare birth at Allwetterzoo Muenster : 2 Temninck Golden Cats born. Birth is the result of an Artificial Insimination - first time it succeeded in this species ! At Rotterdam it has also been tried and the female became pregnant but was killed by the male . One of the young at Muenter is being hand-raised, the other mother-reared.
