A female Harbor Seal pup that was rehabilitated and went through a flipper amputation is on exhibit for a limited time in the Aquatic Animal Study Center. The aquarium is hoping to keep her as a permanent addition.

This would give them two subspecies of Harbor Seal, right? Western Atlantic and Pacific? Or did the aquarium not replace the old Pacific with new ones?

Yes it would, because the current Harbor Seal in Pacific Northwest, Spanky, is a Pacific Harbor Seal.

 

Starting tomorrow, the trainers will begin developing relationships with the penguin chicks and teach them how to feed. You can view the bonding on the 24-hour live penguin webcam.

Pup 49's name is now Coral (Darn, I wanted Grace.) She can be viewed at the Marine Mammal Center through April 28th.

 

Then what? Does she go on exhibit with the other Harbor Seals?

I don't know when she will be introduced to the other Harbor Seal (there's only 1 other) and Northern Fur Seals in Pacific Northwest, but that's probably where she'll go on exhibit.

 

I thought the aquarium brought in like 3 or 4 other seals, too?

I'm not sure what happened to those seals, but as of now, they have only 1.0 Pacific Harbor Seal, Spanky.

 

The two African Penguin chicks will have their first swim tomorrow.

2 new Blacktip Reef Sharks are on exhibit.

 

On July 18th, several Lined Seahorses were born at the aquarium and are on public display.

 

A new male Zebra Shark from New England Aquarium named Indo is now on exhibit in Shark Lagoon.

 

On October 5th and 6th, Mystic Aquarium celebrated their 40th anniversary.
