Nasu will be one of the first zoos in Japan to display the japanese rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta japonica). Previously while zoos did keep Japanese ptarmigans, they usually exhibited Svalbard ptarmigans. For a while Nasu animal kingdom has been trying to add some sort of "hallway" to make the town section of the park an "all weather" facility. The park also announced their newest exhibit; Asian forest. The animal roster is almost exactly like Kobe animal kingdom's Asian exhibit of the same name. The only difference is that Nasu will display their pallas cats in this new exhibit. There isn't any announcement regarding to what will happen to the old enclosures of the red menace and the manuls.
The park suffered a devastating loss of a cotton top tamarin to a burning air conditioner. No other losses were confirmed. I will share the news so someone with actual Japanese language skills can explain specific things better than I can.
Here is another footage reporting the death of the tamarin. The director of the park does say a statement and apologizes for the death of the female. On another article I read that the male tamarin was toxicated by carbon monoxide.
The park announced the passing of a nine year old capybara named Chiffon. According to the park, Chiffon died from old age.
The Asian forest exhibit has been opened to the public. According to this article, there is space for six red pandas along with an outdoor enclosure for most of the red pandas.
