Time to come out of lurk-dom. I joined a month or so ago and have enjoyed the postings. Background: 12 years as a keeper at Oregon Zoo, left for a career in business writing, now combining skill-sets as a mystery author. My first, Night Kill, came out in September from Poisoned Pen Press. It is set in a fictional zoo in Vancouver, Washington, USA, and stars a feline keeper. I won't subject this list to book promotion (well, not again!), but I might ask a question now and then to help with research on my next book, which features elephants and the husbandry concerns about them. I posted pix of Wellington and Auckland Zoos taken in December on my website: Ann Littlewood Zoo Mysteries, also of Sacramento Zoo. My thanks to the people who run this site!
Hi Ann, great 2 hear a lurker coming out. We only have 34,454 pictures here on zoochat. Cant wait for the 100,000 and snowleopard has no trips planned Maybe bring yours over. I would post some, its just l am a lousy photographer.
Enjoyed your book - when's the next one due? It felt very realistic to me. I've never been a keeper, but have been in most areas of a zoo. I didn't know about Poisoned Pen Press which is practically in my back yard. I've been to their shop many times to see authors speak.
This is very cool! Poisoned Pen Press is a fine outfit. Take a look also at Betty Webb's Anteater of Death, for a different style of zoo book. I'm glad you enjoyed Night Kill. The second in the series won't be out for another year, alas, but it will feature elephants. Say hello to the PPP folks for me next time you are in.
