    The new website is a huge improvement, and really puts the spotlight on the phenomenal breeding success they've had with giraffes. The brand new "Rocky Mountain Wild" set of exhibits looks like it's about 25% of the entire zoo!

    1926 - 1st Elephant arrived – Tessie, the Empress of India.
    Deer and Elk arrived on the grounds of the Broadmoor Hotel from Penrose’s Turkey Creek Ranch.
    1927 - Animal collection transferred from the Broadmoor to the mountainside of Cheyenne Mountain
    1928 - Elephant House
    1929 - 1st Lions arrived, two cubs born later in the year.
    1931 - Musk Oxen arrived
    1935 - Monkey House, Bear Dens; 1st Orangutan arrived
    1937 - Miniature Railroad, the “Zoo Specialâ€Â
    1938 - Zoological Society established
    1939 - Cheyenne Mountain Museum opened; Siberian Tigers arrived; Spencer Penrose’s death
    1942 - Lion and Monkey Houses; Black-footed Penguins arrived
    1943 - zoo’s only elephant sold – Shirley Temple
    1948 - 1st elephants arrived at the zoo since WWII; Orangutans arrived – Jiggs and Maggie
    1949 - 1st gorilla arrived – Bud
    1951 - Thundergod House – entrance and restaurant
    1953 - Elephant and Giraffe Building; 1st Hippopotamus arrived
    1954 - 1st Reticulated Giraffe arrived
    1956- Bird and Reptile House; 1st Rhinoceros arrived
    1960 - Hippo (now Aquatics) Building; Monkey House renovated (now Monkey Pavilion)
    1961 - Rhinoceros exhibits; 1st Okapi arrived from Zaire – Amida
    1963 - Okapi exhibit & barn, Male Okapi arrived from Rotterdam – Aketi
    1965 - Zoo Flooded, destroying near completed Primate World and zoo office
    1966 - Primate World
    1968 - Admission price increased to $1
    1976 - Bird of Prey area
    1989 - Masterplan created
    1990- New Entry Plaza, Mountain Outfitters, and Rocky Cliff; Conservation Center
    1991 - Primate World renovation
    1992 - WildNights event begins

    I actually work at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo as a volunteer. My next goal is to get keeper assistant , soon anyways. They have sooo much planned to make the exhibits and the park nicer, can't wait to see what the zoo is like afterwards.
