The Rhinos have been offshow to let mother and baby bond and have quiet time.

Here are a few updates from my visit the other day.

The Dwarf Crocodiles are finally here and have a large enclosure in the Tropical Trails building. Also in there new to the collection include Yellow-headed Day Gecko, Elongated Tortoise, Black Monitor and Gooty Sapphire Tarantula.

Folly no longer keep the Lorikeet or Lory in the collection.

The new Asian Adventure area (old Sitatunga enclosure) to me looks impressive and nicely themed. It has Dhole, Leopard Cat, Red Panda, Chinese Muntjac, Reindeer, White-naped Crane and a few other birds, and Red River Hogs right behind. The Sitatunga have moved down to around the Giraffe area.

The new Tortoise area also looks impressive with a large indoor house, and 2 nice grassy enclosures.

The Aviary connected to the Giraffe house keep an unusual mix of animals including Greater Vasa Parrot, Princess Parrot and 3 Agouti.

It seems like Folly have moved around a lot of bird species to various aviaries. The old Kookaburra aviaries by the Emus have been demolished.

It seems a page from history, as at the time of your visit all of us here were pretty much already on closed zoos for a little while ....

Folly Farm have purchased 2 Binturong from Linton Zoo just after Folly closed from this horrible virus. They are both 1 year old and named "Pop and Corn" and settling in really well. This will be a new species for me to see as Chester keep the Palawan subspecies I believe.

What would be the reason then, for saying on here that they had been 'purchased'?

I would guess generics, but would need to be corrected on that.

Linton did have ‘generic’ Binturongs in the past, some of them descendants from the original Southport Zoo line. I think the last two Southport Bints went to Linton following closure as well. That was in 2004 so these could be completely unrelated individuals.

Linton didn't have binturong for a few years before the parents of these two youngsters arrived about 4 or 5 years ago. These are not directly descended from the Southport or previous Linton binturong. They are definitely generic.

I was wondering if anyone can add the Folly Farm Dhole on Zootierliste as they are not listed. It looks like that list has been updated a lot since a year or so ago.

Visited Folly Farm Zoo recentlly- unfortunately intermittent torrential rain. Kids burst forth from covered amusements when rain stopped. Very impressed with Dhole exhibit- group were very active. Bongo indoor exhibit was interesting , bongo normally very nervous but double glass sided dwarf mongoose cage runs length of indoor barn means you look through the mongoose cage to see bongo. Disappointed red river hogs have died out . Last two died over winter. Was a very large group before and worked well. Was also equally impressed with tortoise enclosure. Did feel one was a Morroccan tortoise - asked a keeper who viewed my thoughts with interest as I have kept these for 40 yrs plus!

Folly Farm have announced on their Facebook page the birth of 2 Asian Leopard Cat kittens.

Shame to hear about the Red River Hogs have died out. I wonder what the plans will be for their enclosure, maybe a second phase for the Asian area.
