Touroparc has received a second female Indian Rhino. Female, Salyan (age 3) made the journey from Zoo Parc Beauval today
Had a nice time there yesterday. Was the sole customer for most of the day, with maybe 10 other clients coming for an hour or so, at least from what I saw. It's a small zoo with a few boring exhibits by the entry, but it gets more interesting as you keep going in. One of the two indian rhinos shares its good looking exhibit with : - 3 grey-crowned cranes - 1 himalayan monal - 2 african sacred ibis - 3 bar-headed geese - 1 no idea what species of guineafowl, maybe a bald crested guineafowl The interaction between all the birds and the rhino is interesting to watch. Other highlight is the tropical house, I had it all to myself for 2-3 hours. It holds the following species : - Black-rumped waxbill (only saw 1) - Cockatiel (1 individual) - Crested partridges - Greater blue-eared glossy starling (1 individual) - Grey-capped emerald doves - Grey-winged trumpeter (1 pretty damaged but very social individual) - Guira cuckoos (with one very agressive individual who followed me and "chased" me around for 20 minutes) - Namaqua dove (only saw 1) - Pied imperial pigeons - Rainbow lorikeets - Red-billed leiothrix - Ringed teals - Scarlet ibis - Violet turacos - White-cheeked turacos - White-faced whistling ducks - Yellow-fronted canaries - Yellow-mantled widowbird (spent 2 hours looking for a male, I unfortunately only got to see the female, not sure if there is a male in there to be honnest) - Red-headed queleas (were signed, but I couldn't see any) Very pleasant house, especially being the only one in there, the birds get used to your presence and it's way more fun wandering around. The baby pademelon is extremely cute but very shy. Overall, a good little zoo, no bad exhibits, no outstanding exhibits as well. Not worth a trip from Lyon but definitely worth a visit if in the region.
Am I right in deducing this is really a bird park but just with Indian Rhino held also? Few other mammals? They used to have Gorillas(a retired pair) and at least one hybrid Orangutan but no longer I think.
No, not a bird park at all. They probably have more mammals than birds. They have 5 primate species, 2 zebra species, giraffes, lions, tigers, wolves, servals. They still have their old hybrid Orangutan but no gorillas anymore.
