@SivatheriumGuy: As far as I know, they had at least the intention to put those critters in there. Although I can imagine where the problem(s) might be, I would like to ask if someone (@Antoine? - Allez-y:D:p) could date us up with facts why the klippspringers are still missing...

@zoomaniac I am not sure to understand exactly what you mean but klippspingers are not there because the zoo didn't manage to get them. If you want, you can get some from USA but it costs a lot and has not real interest at the moment.

@Antoine: Obviously you did understand my question more or less. The intention was to figure out WHY EXACTLY the zoo didn't manage to get them (Was it unable to get wild animals because of ??? restrictions, was it not willing to pay ??? dollars for specimens from a US zoo(s) and which were/was those/this zoo/s etc.)

I don't know French laws (or EU laws - whichever applies here), but are there restrictions / bans on importing hoofstock from South Africa? Why would you go for inbred zoo-mix Klipspringers from the USA when you could import good Klipspringers from South Africa?

@Chlidonias I am not an expert but from what I heard you can't import bovids from Africa due to zoonosis (like tubercolosis). There are some exception but you have to find quarantine countries (out of EU) to check the animals before arrival. I know Zurich can do it as they have a facility for this and Switzerland is not in EU.

Beauval has quite the same type of problem with the import of the doucs (but they have enough vets and money to spend to go on).

I suppose there are the same type of law and concerns in Australia and New-Zealand.

New Zealand can import antelope from South Africa, so it is weird that the EU zoos cannot.

Do you refer to the Balai vet quarantaine or other?

I did'nt know that it is so easy to get Klippspringer from the USA. Which zoo gives some, of the 30 or so animals that are still there? If at all so many are still available....

You can get them from South Africa without any problems, you just have to pay for them and make sure that they are kept in Qurantine in Europe.

Last week Doué received a male aardvark born last year in Olomouc. From what I know the zoo is allowed to breed so maybe first baby for the species in France soon :)

France never bred aardvarks? That sounds quite strange.

The biopark is the first French park to welcome aardvarks. So...
