Thank you, uszoo for providing a link tomthe aerial photo. It looks like the new enclosure is fantastic! The holding facilities look great, as well. It will be interesting to see how long N. C. Zoo keeps Polar Bears in their collection. With the old exhibit, new exhibit and facilities they now have, they should be at the top of the list of holding on to them for the future.

It has been a while since this was published in November 2013. Mentions the death of the breeding male gorilla Nik reported earlier. Wonder what is happening now … I assume they will let both females look after their offspring. Bringing in a new male may be very problematic … Further, they mention another male rhino coming in from Texas in spring this year (2014). @Ucumari mentioned it was San Antonio - meaning the lone male Kutu (alone since the elderly female Alice died in December 2012). I assume that the male Duma they got off them in late 2011 has not been what people might have expected (he was a non-breeder to start with in Fossil Rim I believe). The transfer of the 2nd new male hinges on finding appropriate transport for him. Fingers crossed the zoo may have a good breeding male on the third attempt!
