    Oakland Zoo celebrate centenary:

Oakland Zoo are celebrating their centenary this year and have launched a page on their website with history, stories and photos:

1922 was quite the year. You could buy a brand-new car for about $1,000, automated telephone service just began, the White House installed its first radio, Betty White was born, and five zoos opened worldwide. One of those was the Oakland Zoo.

Rose is the 18th orphaned Puma Oakland Zoo has received and rehabilitated from the state since 2017.

Three of the 18 (Coloma, Toro, and Silverado) still reside at the Oakland Zoo.

Update on treatment of Puma cub:

Zoo Works Around The Clock To Save Orphaned Mountain Lion Cub With "Feisty Spirit."

With round-the-clock care, Rose slowly began to make strides. When her blood tests showed she had a dangerously low red blood cell count, she received a blood transfusion from Silverado, a previously-rescued healthy adult mountain lion who also lives at the zoo.

Rose will spend the next several months recovering. In the wild, cubs normally spend about 2 years with their mothers to learn how to survive in the wild. Without the benefit of a mama, Rose will become a permanent resident in another Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo. With a little luck, she might even get to stay at Oakland with the people who saved her!

Zoo return Bison to the wild:

Oakland Zoo Bison Return to the Wild for the Second Time

Thirteen American bison from the Oakland Zoo have returned to Montana to join their historic lineage. This marks the second transfer of bison as part of the Zoo’s Bison Restoration Project.

The returning group - four mothers, seven two-year-olds, and two one-year-old calves - are all descendants of the iconic ‘Pablo Allard’ herd. These are the first calves born since the addition of two Yellowstone males back in 2019.

These are the last of the Joe Exotic/Jeff Lowe cats. I am so glad they're now all removed from that property!

Mountain lion cubs become besties at zoo: Photos

The Oakland Zoo and CDFW will work together in finding Rose and Sage a good home at another zoo.

Rose and Sage were the eighteenth and nineteenth orphaned mountain lion cubs that Oakland Zoo has received and rehabilitated from the CDFW since 2017. For three of the eighteen, Coloma, Toro, and Silverado, there was space available at Oakland Zoo for them to stay permanently.
