Okapis in Europe

Well, I've started threads like these for chimps in the UK, apes in the Netherlands, bonobos in Europe and aye-ayes worldwide...time for a new one

After using ZTL and theokapi.org as my sources here is what I have found. If anyone can help me flesh this out it would be much appreciated. Also any and all okapi-related news can be posted here if people want it is encouraged!!

BELGIUM

Antwerp = 2.2 (Bondo Henry, Yenthe Hakima)

DENMARK

Copenhagen = 1.1 (Stanley, Luani)

FRANCE

Doue la Fontaine = 2.0 (Azizi Obasi)

Zooparc de Beauval = 2.3 (Libembe Bosi, Demba Ann Tafari)

Berlin Zoo = 1.1 (Steve, Bashira)

Thank you for these information, but you forgot the birth in Cologne from that year, a female calf called JAMILI.

 

Wild Place now have 1.2 + 2. The first calf is called Rubi. The second is very recent, and was born to Lodja.

 

Is Rubi a boy or girl?

 

You need to add a calf born in Kobenhavn and the pair still at Dvur Kralove.

 

Some corrections for germany:

Berlin has exchanged the bull with Lissabon. So Steve is now in Portugal, Berlin got the male"Zuri" to mate with"Bashira".

The female"Abeni" from Leipzig was send to Beekse Bergen.

The female"Lindi"from Frankfurt was send to Antwerp.

Köln has another female",Hakima"from Antwerp. She is the mother of"Jamili".

Ther is one more female at Stuttgart,"Lumara", born there in 2015.

Wuppertal has one more female,"Elani", born oct. 2016.

This make 6.12 for germany.

For Basle, there is one more male,"Nuru", born a few weeks ago.

Dvur has only a male,"Ewango", born there Sep 21,2008. His sister"Ebony"was send to Basle in 2015.
No details about the okapai calf at Kopenhagen, but it is doing well.

So that leaves a current total of 67 okapi across 11 European countries

 

Antwerp has one extra female; Qira, Yenthe's daughter born on 15/11/2015

 

What are the possibilities that other countries, like Spain, Italy, Austria, Hungary or even Croatia, Greece and Turkey, will get their first okapi(s)? Once I read that okapis will be only sent to institutions having previous experience with the species in the EAZA region. Closest okapi from my living town would be those in Basel, Dvur Kralove or Leipzig & Berlin

 

I would FIRST like to have Dvur reinstated as a breeding facility, of all things.

Only just caught this, thanks for the updates! Not sure who Dumela is but when we visited Marwell end of last year it was just the trio Shomari, Jabari and Daphne.
