I'm going to try to start uploading some old videos I shot in Chester Zoo, back in the early 1990s. Here's the first (summer 1990): http://goo.gl/bnxRK
Are you sure all of this footage is 1990? I only ask as there would have been no young elephants of that age until at least after 1995 and the 'new' penguin pool, seen as it still is today in this video was not completed until 1999. Finally the buffy headed capuchins did not arrive until 1996. Chester previously housed white fronted capuchins, but they had all gone by 1992 and I believe were only ever kept in the monkey house and not in the area now housing the red river hogs. Great footage though I have to say!
I thought that as well, I have a photo of the Californian sea lion pool from 1990 taken by a grandparent and it looks different from the pool in the video. Have to agree though, the footage is excellent
Umm... that's a good question. The only tape in the bundle that is labelled says 1990, but there's a chance they could be in more of a muddle than I thought. The clip of the penguin pool is on a separate tape, so thinking about it, that could well be later.
The zoo did not have scarlet ibis in 1990, they would have been in the old ibis aviary from 1994, and there are four adult camels, the zoo held 1.2 adult camels in 1990.
really enjoyed that vid, put a bit of concrete evidence to my childhood memories. You dont happen to have any of the Polar bear do you? Or, and this is pushing it, the Gorillas.
I agree it's quite a bit later than 1990 - the first Elephant seen is Thi isn't it? She arrived as a result of the financial crisis at Regent's Park didn't she? I too remember the Buffy-heads arriving. I enjoyed the film, especially the little bit of the Queen of Bavaria's Conure, so thank-you.
The capuchins were first kept in the old monkey house which was replaced by Monkey Islands in 1997. Thi gave birth to Sithami on 31st December 1997. My guess for the video is 1998. Is the orang utan Subis? She had a baby in 1998.
