Zoo Parc Overloon has announced on their Facebook page that their female greater anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) Toussle is expecting a cub. ZooParc Overloon Let's hope all goes well so we can see another baby greater anteater in the not so distant future.
This past Sunday a greater anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) was born at Zoo Parc Overloon. Starting today the baby will be on show each day between 2 and 4 PM. ZooParc Overloon
A family of Cheetahs ( mother Asali - 8 years old, 3 4 year old daughters and a 5 year old son ) came from Reserve Africaine de Sigean and will be housed as complete family group together at Overloon. Overloons old female Kianga was send to Sigean and it will be tried to bred with her.
After the first DeBrazza monkey this year was born in Feb. in March a second young was born . The group at Overloon now counts 7 animals.
Good breeding result! I was here a year+ ago and they seemed to hold 3 at the time (including one juvenile). A second new female arrived or did they already have more than just a breeding pair?
Last weekend I visited Oveloon for the first time in many years. Most the new enclosures (lions, tigers, giraffes, fossas, lemurs, penguins) are excellent and I thouroughly enjoyed my day there. The troop of 7 DeBrazza's guenons tumbling around in the trees was an absolute highlight. Besides the young DeBrazza's guenons I also noticed a young collared pecari, three ring-tailed lemurs, a whole bunch of capibara young and multiple juvenile/subadult red kangaroos. The park was also filled with moorhen, coot and mallard chicks, even though they're not part of the zoo's collection!
You might want to report the mallard chicks for the Dutch mallard count (the species has been in heavy decline in recent years, think of why and how if you will ...)!
A palm-nut vulture chick has hatched at ZooParc Overloon about six weeks ago and is growing well. This only the third palm-nut vulture to hatch in a European zoo this year. Security Check Required
