That explains why she was locked in her box last saturday, apparently it didn't work in Basel, as she has been there only a short time...

How is Saar doing? Her departure was a surprise to me (well, not only me).

Since, both you and lintworm are closest ..., it would be beneficial to know what modelled their decision on this. I would be particularly interested to learn if and how reproductive technologies where applied in her case as she has been - even at Amersfoort I believe - a known case of just one breeding and birth and an absence of any further positive reproductive behaviors since. I would assume she to have been the subject of an reproductive evaluation and even possibly given her non cyclicity cum hormonal treatment to kick-start it ... again.

The informations have not been confirmed yet but this year a pair of southern cassowaries must replace the maned wolves (the last has gone) in a woodland enclosure. It was their historical place a long time ago.
And next year okapis will arrive in another woodland area (next to the pygmy hippos ans at the bottom of the african plain) not used yet. There will be two outdoor enclosures and an indoor enclosure for cold days. The okapis will share the exhibit with cranes and some antelopes (species not confirmed).
Fingers crossed to see theses nice additions really arrived.

Bongo together with okapis : it's forbidden.
I can't say more about the antelopes because it's subject to change until next year but maybe we will have a nice small suprise ;)

30 greater flamingos arrived from Basel Zoo. They joined the animals already at the park and the group has been placed in the enclosure with a large pond in front of the pileated gibbons island.

The american flamingos are now alone at the entrance.

A silvery-cheeked hornbil is now in the birds show.

A male barking deer arrived from la Haute Touch to form a breeding pair with a female at the park for a long time. On the other hand, the second female at the park went to Zooparc Trégomeur.

Interesting new on the Okapi. Construction hasn't started yet, but once it is finished, I am sure it will belong to the best Okapi enclosures in Europe as all their mammal enclosures are of a very high quality. I was positively surprised by this zoo and will follow their development closely. If this zoo was located in UK/Germany, zoochatters would visit en masse...

Happy you enjoyed your visit @lintworm.

The cassowaries and okapis have been delayed due to crisis.
If all go in a good way in the next months these new exhibits will be done now in the next 2/3 years with others nice additions.

Sad news at Branféré : Ajang, the male indian rhino, died of heart failure a few weeks ago (heart attack during sleep).
Ajang was born in Whipnsade and arrived in the park in 2015.
I know that it's a great lost for the team as Ajang was really kind and was much appreciated by his keepers.

For this year Branféré will create a 1.800 m2 enclosure for tortoises. We don't known the species yet.
Other news is the creation of a mixed enclosure for the somali wild ass and scimitar-horned oryx. From what I know the animals will be put at the beginning of the park so the past somali wild ass enclosure will be empty.

To complete the previous info :
    - there will be dromedaries with the wild ass and oryx.
    - the tortoises exhibit will be home to african spurred tortoises and leopard tortoises.
