These macaques live in Indonesian pavilion (currently still closed for visitors). In original plans, their enclosure was destined for some species of super rare black macaques. However, when house was already under construction, a safaripark in Gänsendorf (located in Austria) went bancrupt and closed its gates and its animals got redistributed though Europe. Some animals found new home quickly, but at the end nobody wanted a group of 12 pig-tailed macaques of unknown heritage and not part of any breeding program. So Prague took them in on wellfare grounds and put all females on birth controll. Years later, the group started to get smaller so from to time, some female is allowed to get an infant, just to keep the group at around 10 heads.

During January, 4 marabou chicks hatched, also a Sunda Teal (Anas gibberifrons) chick, a Mount Apo lorikeet, an Annam leaf turtle and Tunesian tortoises (in second generation bred at the zoo). Born were 4 puff-faced water snakes (Homalopsis buccata), a ground cuscus and a guereza.

6.1 Chilean flamingos arrived from Plzen and an arowana came from Ostrava (for anaconda tank).

An immature Egyptian vulture got imported from wildlife rescue station in Beirut (Lebanon).

The zoo director mentioned future plans with 20-hectares Przewalski horse pen in Divci Hrady in southwestern part of the city that the zoo takes care since last year (that area is owned by city council).

Steppe vegetation have grown enough to increase size of the herd. 2 of their 4 mares will leave temporary for Dolni Dobrejov to be mated with a breeding stallion. And then they will return to Divci Hrady, together with 2 new mares and a castrated stalion. Target size is 1 stallion, 6 mares and hopefully 2 youngsters.

Also, sousliks will be introduced into the horse pen. At first, a cage will be built for sousliks, similar to the cage at the zoo you can see behind giraffes pen. The zoo also plans to built a small swamp inside the horse pen.

For people asking what is Dolni Dobrejov - it is a 10 hectares farm owned by Prague zoo, obtained in form of inheritance from a zoo fan ca 3 decades ago. It got transformed into hoofstock reserve pens. You can´t officially visit it, but it´s near a public road with low traffic so you can park at the side and look at animals. It is 70 km south from Prague.

The bearded vulture pair at the zoo has laid eggs. This might be first time in 2 decades when we will get a chick hatched here again.
