I made everyone aware of his account on here in the past... I'm assuming it may have been that? And I believe I made a somewhat critical comment once, but nothing overly it negative.
A keeper advertisment here - Zoo Jobs: ANIMAL KEEPER The candidate will need to look after 'Malagasy Euplerids and Felids such as Clouded Leopard and Cheetah. We also work with various other species ranging from Spotted Hyena and Sun Bear to large Asian Hornbills, Birds of Paradise, Cassowary and a number of primate species such as Langurs, Lemurs and Callitrichids.'
I really hope they have an open day or two. I noticed recently they have imported two sun bears and a pair of great hornbills!
Birds of paradise are (to the best of my knowledge) king, lesser and three-wired, hornbill is the great hornbill (not heard of any others) and cassowary is Northern. No idea on the langur species. The only species I know have been added to the species list I made earlier (post #92 on the previous page) are the sun bears, langurs, great hornbills and Madagascar flying foxes.
One thing I have just noticed on the Instagram page for this collection that I figured I would put here for those interested: The collection is crowdfunding to feed the animals in its collection during the coronavirus shutdown. To add an incentive, every person who donates more than £50 will get to visit on a supporters open day after the crisis is over. One thing, species-wise, I have just noticed on the GoFundMe page - the collection has Javan yellow-throated martens and has apparently bred them for the first time outside Indonesia. The GoFundMe page is here: HELP US FEED OUR ANIMALS organized by Todd Dalton
If the collection isn’t open to visitors then what difference is coronavirus having on their income, causing them to need for outside funding? Not a dig, just a genuine question.
I thought this too, on face value I'm willing to pay £50 and get to visit, but would I be better to give £50 to a public collection I want to survive? This collection isn't struggling due to lack of visitors, it doesn't have any anyway!!
It's probably the case for here, and many privately owned collections, where they are funded by other business ventures. These businesses will have been hit by the virus, and therefore unable to fund the maintenance of the collection.
Indeed, wasn't Todd's primary source of income importing civet coffee (lupi kawak) at one point? If his current business is even remotely similar then I imagine that due to the world grounding to a halt his other venture will aslo be currently on hiatus! Nothing said here is fact, but educated guesswork.
So was mine, hence the question marks, use of the word imagine, and the educated guesswork bit at the end... But mine was more specifically about this collection, think that was the only difference really!
I've given this some thought and basically I'm not prepared to donate £50 to a collection I would never normally be able to visit. I'd rather give money to Exmoor, Hamerton.....
I was under the impression that this collection was partly funded by the farm attached which sold specialist chocolate, rare breed chickens and goat meat/milk products? I’m wondering about the £50 donation too, as I’ve attempted leaving messages before with no reply as their website never updated about the ‘feast’ evenings and tours. It’s one hell of a collection though!!
