Thylo, it appears you got the member newsletter too! I wonder if the catfish are in the tank that housed the piranhas?
According to WCS news there are three finch species in an exhibit in the Hall of Animals Building. The species are 6 red faced parrot head finches, gouldian finches and owl finches. No idea what exhibit they replaced; however I would guess the pheasant pigeon/mynahs. Still no word on the amur leopard exhibit or what will replace the kangaroo exhibit?
The zoo has updated its website and from it, it appears as though they've added Lettered Aracari to the Animal Lifestyles building. ~Thylo

A further 4 Chinese Big-headed Turtles (Platysternon megacephalum) hatched in November: the third year in a row that this species has reproduced successfully at Prospect Park. No other zoo in America seems to be breeding this turtle.

A pair of male fennec foxes has arrived. https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20...rlds-tiniest-foxes-debut-at-prospect-park-zoo
Bronx used to exhibit them in both the Mouse House and Children's Zoo so yes they should still have them. Personally I hope they left the Mouse House because their CZ enclosure is larger and has an outdoor segment. Also, the zoo has changed up their map a bit and you can bee the icon for the foxes which shows that they're closer to the nocturnal section. I would guess that that means they're in what used to hold dwarf mongoose based on that and the photo provided (which is a diurnal setting). ~Thylo
Visited the zoo today and quite enjoyed it. The aviary is a lot fuller than it was on my last visit three years ago. I saw five Red-Knobbed Imperial-Pigeons, the Cape Barren Goose, a pair of Elliot's Pheasants, an unknown pheasant species, a Black-Necked Crane, and what I think was a Sumatran Laughingthrush along with the regular waterfowl, chickens, storks, and the muntjac pair. I didn't see any but the finch enclosure has African Yellow White-Eye signed and no Gouldian Finches. There's a female Lesser Bird-of-Paradise in the Green-Naped Pheasant-Pigeon enclosure. Not sure if it's been mentioned before but the Malawi cichlid tank is gone. The Rock Cavy is in the Golden Lion Tamarin enclosure and the White-Faced Saki and Bolivian Grey Titis have been moved by the Fennec Fox, with their old enclosure now having Geoffroy's Marmosets (meaning the zoo keeps both Geoffroy's Marmosets and Tamarins). There's a pair of White-Crested Laughingthrush in with the female Satyr Tragopan in the side aviaries. The Discovery Center was open today where it turns out they have indoor viewing windows for the Wreathed Hornbill and an owl. There's also Mexican Redknee Tarantula, False Map Turtles, a mud turtle species, and box turtle species in there. I'm surprised and saddened to see that nothing has been done to the former kangaroo/wallaby enclosure except turning a portion of it into a playscape. Anyone know of the plans for this area? Amur Leopard? ~Thylo
