    An African penguin chick hatched December 26, 2019:

    African Penguin Chick born at Pueblo Zoo

    In a statement, the Pueblo zoo announced that Percy (mom) and Berry (dad) just birthed their third chick on Friday. The new chick has two brothers named Quinn and Duckie.


    A male Swift fox was euthanized May 19, 2020:

    Pueblo Zoo's Black Bart, oldest Swift Fox in the US, dies - KRDO

    The Pueblo Zoo had to make the hard decision to euthanize the oldest Swift fox in the United States Tuesday night.

    Black Bart, the zoo's elder Swift fox, had been struggling with tumor growths in his legs, according to the zoo. A large mass was removed a few weeks back to give him a few more weeks of care.

    He passed away peacefully at the age of 15, the zoo said.

    A baby Takin was born on June 6 to resident mother Takin, Tashi. This is her fifth pregnancy.

    The zoo said the sex of the youngster is still unknown but they should know within the next few weeks.

    2021 News:

    On February 3rd, the zoo announced they have acquired a (0.1) Pallas cat named Olive and a (1.0) cotton-top tamarin named Killa from the Dakota Zoo in North Dakota.

    On February 21st, the zoo announced that their (0.1) African penguin named Sallie was diagnosed with a melanoma tumor on her face. On June 7th, the zoo announced she has passed away at age 30.

    On April 27th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) domestic goat was born on April 24th.

    On May 19th, the zoo announced that the EcoCenter, Islands of Life, and Worlds of Color buildings have reopened to the public.

    On June 1st, the zoo announced that a (0.1) North American river otter named Thelma passed away at age 19 and was considered the oldest female of her kind in the AZA.

    On June 15th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) American bison named Ginger passed away due to a botched pregnancy, in which the mother and baby did not survive. The zoo also announced they have transferred a (1.0) American bison named Sid to the Great Plains Zoo in South Dakota. Both bison have "pure" genetics.

    On July 16th, it was announced that (0.2) North American river otters named Astrid and Juno were transferred to the Mesker Park Zoo in Indiana.

    On August 12th, the zoo announced that they have named their (1.1) red panda cubs that were born in June, Mogwai and Momo. On November 14th, the zoo announced that their red panda cubs have made their public debut.

    On August 31st, the zoo announced that their (1.0) North American porcupine named Igloo passed away at age 6 due to kidney failure.

    On September 14th, it was reported the zoo had received a $161,100 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to deliver more virtual programming for "the students and families in the Colorado community".

    On September 21st, the zoo announced that a (0.1) cotton-top tamarin was born on August 27th. On December 27th, the zoo announced its name, Boo.

    On October 22nd, the zoo announced that a (1.0) African lion named Hodari has been transferred to the El Paso Zoo in Texas.

    On November 17th, the zoo announced that their (0.1) Canadian lynx named Kaya passed away at 20.5 years old, making her the oldest of her kind in AZA care in North America.

    On January 7th, the zoo announced that they have closed the African penguin exhibit due to deep cleaning. On January 20th, the zoo announced they have reopened the exhibit.

    On March 8th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) Jacob's sheep named Carolina passed away due to age-related health issues.

    Few more suggestions for your news updates @Smaggledagle...

    Not only was this now 6 months ago, but the exhibit was only closed for 2 weeks and has now been open normally for 5 months (unless it was affected by bird flu, I guess). So this sort of update is no longer relevant.

    Most of that entire slew of 2021 updates you just posted beforehand go along the same lines of what I said yesterday regarding "too long ago for how big of news they are". The reopening of the buildings is probably the only one that would still be worth mentioning at this point, if it wasn't previously.

    I'm inclined to say that domestic goat births are never news, but domestic goats born over a year ago definitely aren't :p

    A final thought: posting super long news updates like this tends to crowd out important information and thus make people more likely to ignore them. In general, short and timely news updates receive better attention :)

    On June 23rd, the zoo announced in their newsletter that due to less cases of avian influenza, their peacocks, farm birds, birds of prey, and penguins will be on exhibit, as well as the Rainforest building being opened to the public starting June 29th.

    On June 28th, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) Sichuan takin named Mei Xing was born May 31st and is on exhibit.

    On June 29th, the zoo announced that the Rainforest Building has reopened to the public. They also announced they have acquired a (0.0.1) hammerkop named Arki.

    They also mention a new cotton-top tamarin baby but it isn't specified if there was a new birth at the zoo or its Boo, the female born in September 2021.
